Is Maelyn a real princess? Or a royal mistake?
Maelyn was not born a princess. The king found her as a child, the lone survivor of a poor village slaughtered by Red Fever. Suddenly she became a princess of Runa Realm, the first of nine orphans adopted by the king.
By her eighteenth year, Maelyn rules over Runa and a family of nine sisters. But some call the princesses frauds and imposters, a handful of urchins raised into royalty. Even Uncle Jarrod, the High King of Grunwold, seems determined to prove that Maelyn no longer deserves to be a princess. With a family losing faith in her, and a kingdom growing dangerously hostile, even Maelyn begins to wonder if she is truly a real princess. And if her riches will turn to rags once again....
The Nine Princesses novels chronicle the adventures of an unconventional family of princesses, the struggles they face in a kingdom often hostile to their humble origins, and the day-to-day dramas of nine young women whose personalities often clash like swords. Fans of Gail Carson Levine and Shannon Hale would enjoy these princess novels.

Toot's Review by Stacy Sabala
I love the
backstory of this series. The king
brings home nine orphaned girls to his queen.
They claim them as their own and make them all princesses. Things go well until their father dies. Some of the kingdom don’t believe they are
true to the leadership of the throne because of their birth. It shows in the abandonment of their
servants. Maelyn has had to adjust to
their situation. Each princess takes up
chores to ensure things run smoothly in their kingdom.
Unfortunately,
their uncle seems to feel the same as the people. Maelyn doesn’t trust him and rightly so. He has an alternate plan that is deviously
made to make things right. Maelyn has to
outsmart her uncle to win. She is an
awesome character and the oldest of the princesses. She takes on the biggest responsibilities.
You only
meet a few of the girls in this novella but there are more to come. This just whets the appetite for the series of
unique fairytales. These princesses are
strong and determined to do what their father intended. It is a great story and the beginning to an
interesting series. I wish it had been a
bit longer, but I still give it a 4 out of 5.
