Review: Nowhere Else But Here by Rachel Cotton

Book Blurb

“He was reckless. He was exciting. He was Theo.
And he was a breath of fresh air in my otherwise extremely dull life”

What if the missing person is your missing piece?

Rose has always played by the rules – now it’s time to break them.

Life’s easier when you stay away from other people. Rose Valentine knows that. But some people are impossible to ignore. Take Theo Lockhart. He’s handsome, funny and beyond intriguing. He’s a mystery; one that Rose dreams of solving.

Then one night the mystery deepens. Theo turns up on Rose’s doorstep, desperate to hide out at her house. He’s keeping secrets, and Rose has a million questions. Not least – why did he choose to run to her?

If Rose lets him in, she’ll be going against everything she holds true. It’s reckless, risky – and definitely not in the rulebook. But Theo makes Rose long to break the rules After a whirlwind week of brat-pack movies, midnight snacks and non-stop chat, where do Rose and Theo go from here?

Toot's Review by Stacy Sabala

Rose is out helping to find her chemistry lab partner, Theo.  He has disappeared, and no one knows what happened to him.  He is a loner by choice and no one really knows a lot about him.  This is how the story begins.
The author, then, places Theo on Rose’s doorstep.  She gets pulled into the situation that Theo finds himself. Rose walks a straight line when it comes to her behavior.  Her relationship with her parents is almost nonexistent.  They are never home, and Rose always just relied on her brother.
So, when Theo shows up, Rose is thrown for a loop.  She has never done anything like it.  She hides Theo and keeps his location a secret from everyone.  The author constantly has her questioning herself.  This story really pushes her out of her comfort zone.
She and Theo grow closer as they spend time together.  Rose starts to learn more about Theo.  I liked how both characters faced internal issues throughout the story.  As a result, Rose really grew into herself.  Theo also opened up more.  His family situation was not what was expected.  I understand why he did what he did, but his actions may not have been the best choice.  He did, however, force change with those involved.

I also loved the fact that Theo basically likes Rose, but no one never knew because of his chosen isolation.  The pairing was sweet but placed into difficult situations.  I liked how the story progressed yet wanted to shake Rose’s parents.  What was wrong with them.  They chose work over their children.  Other than that bit of character issues, it was a great read.  I give it a 4 out of 5.
