Review: Son of Eden (Tales of the Guardian #1) by Brianna J. Merrill

Book Blurb

Imagine a moment of unseen intervention on your behalf. What would you do if you discovered invisible beings surrounding you? What if you were the key to their survival? SON OF EDEN introduces a world where unseen beings really do exist, love has no limits, and the realization of one’s self worth is pivotal.

Tormented by sadness over her mother’s death, Emily Wallace wonders if life really has any purpose. Her question is answered when she meets Alexander. After transgressing the laws of his kind, Alexander reveals his true nature to Emily and the two find life without one another is not an option. But forming such a cosmically unique relationship comes with a price. It becomes apparent that some will stop at nothing to ensure an ancient prophecy surrounding these two is never fulfilled. Is the Opposition motivated by knowledge of Alexander’s true identity? Or are they more concerned with who Emily is destined to become?

Toot's Review by Stacy Sabala

Emily lives with her father.  Her mother died of cancer a couple of years ago.  Emily has cut herself off from her regular self.  She doesn’t enjoy shopping or other things she used to.  It reminds her too much of her mother.  One evening at an auction, an old violin grabs her attention.  She must win the bid.  However, the violin needs to be restored.  On her way to the music shop she meets Alexander, who saves her from a dangerous situation.  They are immediately drawn to each other.  Emily is shocked to learn who he is and what he does.  He is a guardian, her guardian to be exact.  Their feelings for each other are unprecedented.  He tells her all about himself when no other guardian has done so.
The guardian council isn’t sure what to do after the fact, but a prophesy has been foretold.  Emily and Alexander are a big part of it.  Emily becomes a target as Alexander, with the help of the other guardians, work hard to keep her safe.
I liked this book.  Emily is depressed and closed off to others after she loses her mother.  She seems to have a good heart and is down to earth considering her financial status.  Her dad is humble but smart also.  I like the family dynamics they have.  Then Alexander is introduced when he saves Emily.  He reveals himself and doesn’t look back.  His feelings are obvious, and the relationship unfolds sweetly.  I loved how they worked together.  She was innocent, and Alexander took care of her.

It was a sigh-worthy love story as the two meet and develop a love relationship.  They had odds to overcome but they willingly do it together.  It was a good start to the series as the main characters are introduced.  The romance is sweet, and the battle scenes packed full of danger.  I give it a 4 out of 5.
