A girl with a dark history…
Avery Bresllin took a leap of faith when she changed her name. As Avery Patterson, she is no longer the daughter of a serial killer. No longer the girl who was bullied and abused through high school. A fresh name and a fresh start at Columbia University means Avery can leave all that behind. There’s only one thing marring her dream of a clean slate….
A boy with a past of his own…
Luke Reid has a lot going for him: sex appeal, badass tattoos and insane musical talent. Despite his guitar skills, his calling in life has always been to serve and protect. A NYPD cop by day, singer in rock band D.M.F by night, from the outside Luke seems like he’s got it made. But falling for a girl whose father was accused of deeply sinister acts—a man whom Luke shared a devastating history with, himself—only serves to complicated things.
Pieces of a puzzle…. Four symbols, four methods of destruction. A trade. Borrowed wings. Dark secrets that threaten to destroy.

Toot's Review by Stacy Sabala
Avery
Patterson is a student at Columbia University with a big secret. She has an infamous father and she is trying
to escape what happened. She is hiding
pretty well until Luke Reid enters her life.
He was there and knows everything.
She tries to avoid him because he reminds her of that night. However, he is the only one who can help her
and who understands. I liked Luke’s
character a lot. He was sweet and trying
to do the right thing.
Avery
annoyed me for most of the book. She ran
from everything hard and ignored things hoping they would go away. I didn’t like how much of a coward she was. I truly wanted to shake her several
times. I understand why she has issues. Her mother is atrocious and basically freezes
Avery out. She was one of my least
favorite characters. Couldn’t stand her. I was glad she only showed up occasionally.
The one
things that confused me was Noah. Why
did he turn like that? It didn’t make a
lot of sense to me. There wasn’t a
reason to make him do that by the end of the book. There was so much going on for Avery that it
wasn’t necessary. It was thrown at you
but never really explained. SO wasn’t
exactly what the author was trying to really do with that character.
The
storyline was a good one. I liked the idea of the book and trying to figure out
what really happened that night. The
ending surprised me. I wasn’t expecting
the who. I was shocked. I give the book
a 4 out of 5.
