FREE BOOK Review: Awaken (Fated Saga #1) by Rachel M. Humphrey-D'aigle

Book Blurb

Staying on the move has kept them safe--but they can't outrun fate.
Binge read the entire fantasy adventure!

Meghan and Colin Jacoby have never questioned their uncle's only rule to live by--never stay in one place for too long. Instead, they've traveled the countryside with him in his travel trailer, moving from place to place for nearly thirteen years never having a reason to question why he chose this unsettled life--until now.

All they've come to know is about to change in this fast-paced, action-packed saga that blends the modern-day world with the enchantment of a classic fantasy adventure.

Through an unexpected series of events and strange encounters, they enter a foreign world that straddles their own--one of new friends, magical mysteries, and spellbinding twists that send them on dangerous missions and facing deadly enemies that are only supposed to exist in the world of make believe.

But as these encounters and events get stranger and scarier and become all too real, the true quest reveals itself and the adventure will take on a whole new meaning--to unravel the mysteries about their past and revealing why they have to stay on the move, as well as discover where they truly belong and if there's such a thing as a place called home.

Toot's Review by Stacy Sabala

Meghan and Colin are twins who live with their uncle.  They lost their parents when they were young. Their lives now are full of travel with their uncle.  The author doesn’t give a lot of background.  There are hints at secrets and of possible things coming.  The main characters are twelve and act like it, Meghan comes to Colin’s rescue against bullies.  He obviously resents it. He wants to be bigger and have the ability to take care of himself. They have a special ability of speaking to each other’s mind through thoughts.  It is never revealed if it is a twin thing or a magic ability.  They speak with each other constantly that way.  Their friend Sebastien knows about the ability.  They see him every summer when they stay at the same campground.
This story gains a group of gypsies that add mystery.  Meghan and Colin let their curiosity get them into situations that turn dangerous.  They make a new friend in Jae.  He is a member of the gypsy’s group.  The author basically throws the characters together.  They trust and help each other.

Jae is stranded away from his family.  He teaches them a few things about magic and his enemies, but Meghan is faced with the biggest change.  Something is happening to her.  Some of the known characters seem to understand what is going on but they play it off and keep their secrets.  That frustrated me as a reader.  I wanted more information.  Then the ending was abrupt.  The storyline is original, and I wonder what will happen next.  I also wonder when the author with reveal what the heck is going on.  I give it a 3 out of 5.
