Katie’s world is turned upside down when she discovers Riker has vowed to protect her. She’s involved in a prophecy, one which her lover had been preparing her for before his murder. All the combat training he gave her suddenly makes sense, and as Katie fights to keep her friends alive, she’s forced to prioritize. Revenge now, saving mankind next.

Interview

Hi Mary,

Thank you so much for sitting down with Toot's for an interview. If you don't mind, I have some questions for you about your new series, The Legacy and some of your writing process for our budding authors as well as fans, which I am definitely among!

So first off, Your newest book is part of the your newest series called The Legacy. Let's talk about the series as a whole.

In your own words, what is The Legacy Series about?

A strong woman who is a human and must realize she has a large role to fulfill to save not only her friends, her town, but mankind. And it won't be easy since she's a woman and human. She'll have to find ways to survive through all the death, heartache and chaos. And lead a war.

How did you come up with the idea, title of the series and of the current book?

The title of the series took a little while to come up with. Then I thought…she's part of a prophecy…a Legacy. Eureka!

Can you tell us about your new book in the series, Immortal Revenge?

Katie Dillinger has just lost her lover, an immortal. She doesn’t know who found him but has a good idea and wants to get justice. She reaches out to her late boyfriend’s friend, Riker, for his help. He shares with her information about a prophecy. She doesn’t believe it, but as she searches for the murderers, she starts to realize someone needs to step up to the plate to prevent further deaths. Katie’s journey is difficult as she is human, but she has certain skills and cast of supporting characters to help her.

How does the new book, Immortal Revenge, fit into the series?
She's lost the love of her life and comes to realize he had secrets. He was preparing her for something greater because he knew her potential. He knew what she would do for mankind and the good immortals.

How many books are planned for the series?

So far, three. But there could be four.

What was your favorite scene to write for your hero or heroine in Immortal Revenge?

The scene at the beginning and the action scenes. I love action and heartache scenes.

What was the hardest scene to write for Immortal Revenge?

I can't say there was a difficult scene. They all flowed from me smoothly.

*with a wink* Did anything memorable happen to you, that you wouldn't mind sharing, during the writing of this book?

Well, when I first started writing this story I was in the beginning stages of going through a divorce. I started out as grief stricken, like Katie finding her lover destroyed. Then the grief turned to anger. My emotions were in tune with hers. I would overcome the turmoil and rise a strong woman. So would Katie. She had a bigger purpose.

Writing.......

Do you recall how your interest in writing originated and what made you decide to pursue it as a career?

I've always had an interest in writing. Always enjoyed it but never considered it as a career or means of profit until around 2008. I first wrote something in my early twenties. I didn't do anything with it as my life was changing in a big way. I became a mother and that was my top priority. Time passed, and in 2008 I found myself with plenty of time on my hands.

What inspires you to put the pen to paper or fingers to the keyboard?

When I have a story to tell and I don't want to keep it in my head. I'm not inspired by a person or event or a show. I just have an idea and want to get it into words to share with others.

What are some of the elements in/of your writing process?

Well, I have to have an ample supply of gum and water near me. I usually sit down during the weekends and just let the words flow. If I have research to do, I will do it during the week. Sometimes I can write in the mornings. The best time to write for me is in the mornings. My mind is clear and energized. I don't listen to music and sometimes I have to turn off my email so it doesn't distract me.

Are you a Plotter or a Pantser?

I'm a mixture of both. I come up with plots, then fill in the details as I write.

Have you released anything under a different pen name, and if so, is there any difference between them?

Actually, I have. I wrote steamier stories under another name in a variety of genres. The difference being the genres and the heat level.

What's next for you?

I'm going to write the second book in the Legacy series and Midnight Gardens series in 2014. I'm taking a small break from writing right now.

Is there anything you’d like to add before we get into the personal questions?

Live long and prosper - Spock.

Personal questions......

Now I know this is like asking you to choose between your own children, but out of all your amazing stories, who is your favorite character and why?

Oh, that's difficult to choose. I like Katie because she's strong and has to deal with a ton of challenges, but I also like her best friend, Jules. She's funny and brings light to Katie's dark world. The two make a great team.

If you had to pick an actor for your fav, whom would it be?

Oh, Lord…I have no idea. Sorry. I'm at a loss here.

Are there any of your stories that hold a special place in your heart?

Immortal Revenge has a special place. I'm attached to the characters. I also started writing it shortly after I separated from my (now) ex-husband. It was an emotional time for me and I wrote Katie as going through some of those emotions. In the end, we both come out stronger.

What's your favorite quote?

“One day you’re a college graduate, in love with Mr. Right and looking for a job. The next day, your Rambo.” - Jules

and

“What the hell happened? I keep replaying everything and returning to the point where you held a dead man’s head in your hand and a sharp bloody knife in the other. That wasn’t the Katie I knew from college.” - Ben

If you could only take 3 things with you on a Deserted Island, what would they be and why?

Toilet paper because leaves just won't work, my cell phone with an endless supply of electricity, and my library card. I'd need the card to get all the free ebooks on my phone. I assume the island would have some kind of water for me. Must. Have. Water. If not, then I'd have to trade the toilet paper for endless supply of water. LOL

Lastly, let's steal an idea from the magazines.....What 5 things do fans not know about you and 5 they don't know about the book?

1. Strawberry is my favorite flavor.

2. I think way too much. Had a teacher in college tell me I'm an over-thinker. Gee, thanks.

3. I have a led foot. Watch out for me on the roads.

4. I hate cooking.

5. I believe in aliens.

Book…

1. The town of Mishawaka is real, but the bar, Tasmanian Devil, is not.

2. Katie Dillinger is from the bloodline of the famous Dillinger.

3. The original cover for Immortal Revenge had a hot man on it. Although I liked the cover and thought it was great, I asked my cover artist to put a female on it. The end result is what you see now on the cover and it's awesome.

4. Jules reminds me of a friend I worked with once. She had a great sense of humor. She wasn't into roller skating or disco, but her sense of humor is close to that of Jules's.

5. There is a hint of romance in the story, but it's not a romance.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for taking time to answer some questions. Congratulations on the new book and I can't wait for everyone to read it!

Thank you very much for having me as a guest!!!
