Where I Bring My Book Worlds to Life

Picture a perfectly crafted desk with dainty legs and just the right amount of rustic charm. The table top is a bright turquoise and the legs are white, but roughened natural wood shows through in earnest. White, built in bookshelves stand proudly on each side of the desk, and the colorful spines that house Charles Darcy and Travis Maddox alike stand at attention next to one another. Bouquets of flowers and pens in matching vases stand on opposite corners, and light from the chandelier above glints off of the screen of a silver laptop that sits in between. A light lavender scent fills the air with just the right amount of potency to calm and inspire, and the coolness of the room brought on by air conditioning is nothing but a faint tickling on my arms.

Now, come back to reality.

I write my books from a spot on my couch in my living room, while my two year old plays and screams around me, my body and computer an occasional jungle gym for his gymnastic development.

The power of the written word is unparalleled. I, for one, feel unbelievably blessed to use that magic to create worlds of my own, and then share them with you.

And sometimes, that same magic can even be used to create the perfect writing spot.

Laurel Ulen Curtis is a 26 year old mother of one. She lives with her husband and son (and cat and two fish!) in New Jersey, but grew up all over the United States. She graduated from Rutgers University in 2009 with a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology, and puts that to almost no use other than forecasting for her friends! She has a passion for her family, laughing, and reading and writing Romance novels.
