Review : Boreal and John Grey (Season 1) by Chrystalla Thoma

Book Blurb

Dangerous Shades, magical portals, sexy elves and a spunky heroine. Welcome to Ella's world.

This is the complete First Season of the series Boreal and John Grey, books 1-5 (The Encounter, The Gate, The Dragon, The Dream and The Truth.

Centuries ago, they nearly conquered humankind. But their Gate to our world closed, leaving them out. Now the elves have found a way back.

Ella Benson, agent of the Paranormal Bureau, fights the Shades when they cross into our world, keeping everyone safe. But increasingly dangerous creatures are slipping into her city, her work partner has just gone missing, and a mysterious – and, quite frankly, hot — guy saves her life. His name is Finn and, as it turns out, he’s a natural when it comes to fighting the Shades.

When the Gates between the worlds start opening and the elves make a comeback, Ella needs a new, temporary partner. Enlisting the mysterious Finn is a no-brainer, until she realizes he is guarding dangerous secrets of his own.

Together with Finn, and the fate of the world on her shoulders, what’s Ella to do but grab her weapons and figure it all out, one way or another.

Toot's Review by Stephanie Silva

I have two words that define this book perfectly: Page turner. At the beginning of this novel you are full of questions about the magic creatures it involves, about the past and future of the main characters and about the secret hints that the author gives you about what is going to happen next and I can, honestly tell you that you will get more questions than answers. It wouldn’t be an interesting read and there would be no sequel if the author reveals all the secrets, right? Who doesn’t love a mix of mystery, action, romance and magic? If you do…well, this book is a MUST READ!

Would you risk the lives of billions for the one you love?

Ella Benson is an agent of a secret organization, The Paranormal Bureau, which fights creatures from other worlds such as Shades, trolls, goblins, elves and so on. Her job is simple: get called and kill whatever non-human creature that is causing trouble without getting killed in the process nothing more nothing less. Oh wait, did I mention she needs to buy groceries for herself and her cat like most of the time. Cops have plenty of time for the bad guys but forget that eating is a MUST and that a drink IS NOT a meal :P

Her job isn’t easy. In fact, is has plenty of risks but she never thought something worse than a few broken ribs and bruises would happen to her or her partner Simon. Well…life isn’t always what we want it to be, right? The Shades started to increase their number. They are more organized and stronger and for some reason they seem to almost kill Ella a couple of times. There is something wrong with the barrier that divides her world from the one of the elves and no one seems to know the answer. A mysterious and handsome guy appears out of nowhere, saves Ella from a Shades attack a couple of times and disappears in record time.

Who is this mysterious hunter? Why did he appear at every Shades attack? Why did he help her? And why the hell does she seem to think of him that much? These are some of the questions that haunt Ella’s mind. It doesn’t help that Simon goes missing or that he, his best friend and partner, has a secret life that she knew nothing about. It seems everything that can go wrong does go wrong and if she wants to discover why the Shades are getting stronger and the reason for the sudden disappearance of Simon and other voyants and listeners she will need a partner. This is where her mysterious and handsome savior, Finn, enters the picture. He becomes her temporary partner and helps her to fight the Shades while trying to discover the mystery her life has become…but something is odd. Finn knows too much about the Shades, the elves and…everything that is happening. Should she trust him? Is he an enemy?

You may fall in love in an instant and not realize it until the one you love becomes your entire world. Was this happening to Ella? Well…you need to find that out on your own. I will just tell you that when your world seems to fall apart and no one seems to be who they are supposed to, you need someone to rely on and sometimes that person is not who you would want him/her to be.

Are you ready to fight creatures three times your height, follow dead ends that might hold the answer to a big mystery and fall in love with someone that knows much more than he tells you?

Then you are ready for BOREAL AND JOHN GREY
