ARC Review : Killing Me Softly by Leisl Leighton (CR)

Book Blurb

Reclusive record producer, Alexia Deningham, guards her privacy fiercely. When she agrees to work with superstar Daemon Flagherty, and his band, it is only on the condition that they stay with her at her isolated country estate.

Fresh from a messy divorce, Daemon is determined to focus on his music. He wants to work with the best and that means Lexi. He certainly isn't looking for romance, but he finds himself intrigued by Lexi's secretive behavior.

Despite Lexi's reservations, their attraction grows. But someone is watching Lexi. Someone who will stop at nothing to destroy the woman who has ruined his life. When his campaign of terror ratchets out of control, Lexi must fight for survival but who can she really trust?

Toot's Review by Stacy Sabala

I really liked this book.  It had romance, murder, sex and rock and roll.  The storyline involves the famous band The Sidhe.  The lead singer Daemon Flagherty has lost his heart and soul to the nasty divorce he had to endure from his ex-wife, who is now telling all and more in the tabloids.  He needs to reconnect with his music again, his lifeline.  In order to do that he needs to work with the best record producer, AJ Denholm.  AJ Denholm is a recluse and is very particular about the bands she works with.

AJ, or Alexia, is a recluse for a reason.  There is violence in her past which caused her twin sister Cat to remain in a catatonic state for 11 years.  She refuses to let the public know who she really is as she tries to put the past behind her.  After bringing her sister home to heal, she agrees to work with The Sidhe but only on her terms.  The Band moves in and begins recording their new album.  Daemon discovers that he and Alexia have more in common then he would have thought.  They use music to speak their hearts and to escape.

They are both scared to trust after their traumatic pasts.  Daemon is more than willing to try, but Alexia is full of fear and fights herself every step of the way.  Then her past catches up with her and the terror starts all over again.  She is targeted again by a mad man who threatens to finish what the first one started.

This is a type of book I really like.  The setting is in England and the male character, Daemon, is Irish.  There are several British spellings and phrases throughout the story.  The descriptive words the author uses sets the tone and gives the reader a great visual picture as the story progresses.  The storyline is a fantasy for a lot of women, having a hot rock star fall for you.  However, Alexia is stubborn and makes things difficult with her relationship with Daemon.  I was frustrated with her character at times and wanted to visually shake some sense into her.  The author did a great job pulling the reader in and making them a part of this story, which shows with how I felt about the characters’ actions.  Awesome read.

I give it a 4 out of 5.
