Toot's Review by Stacy Sabala

Triss is devastated when her mother disappears.  The coven acts like she is dead.  Triss doesn’t believe it and wants to find her mother.  No one believes her.  Something crazy happened at her shop on the morning of the services.  She barely escapes, then she comes face to face with a friend from the past.  He has grown up and is heading for college.  He and his mother stay with Triss for the memorial and Triss’ acceptance into the coven.
Logan is happy to see Triss.  He wants to be there to support her.  He believes her mother disappeared as Triss does.  He is determined to protect Triss and help her find out what happened to her mother.  He has his own secrets but he feels he can protect her.
When the coven is infiltrated and Triss becomes a target, she has to accept Logan’s abilities for dark magic.  She has to trust he won’t turn as she becomes the target for an enemy sending the lonely souls to kidnap her.  When she finds out who is behind her mother’s disappearance and why.  She is thrown for a loop.  She needs Logan to help her fight her fears and plan.  She must face her feelings and fears before she is able to move on from her past, saving her mother in the process.
I really liked this book.  The story was fascinating.  The disappearance of her mother starts the story off with a bang.  It pulls you in instantly.  Then her suspicions about her mother arise and the behaviors of others reinforce it.  She is a smart girl and a great character.  She is trusting her gut as she feels something isn’t right.  Then the author pairs her with long-time friend Logan.  Logan is completely in love with her and devoted to her which creates a sigh-worthy part of the story.  Every girl needs a guy like that in their corner.  I also like how she is what keeps him balanced against the dark magic he has studied.

The author really adds to an already mysterious storyline by adding the coven involvement and who is behind the attempts to kidnap Triss.  The ending isn’t necessarily shocking but is written well because you can feel Triss’ torment.  She and Logan work together to defeat the enemies and figure out what is really going on.  It was a great read.  I can’t wait to read the next book.  I give it a 4 out of 5.
