Review: Mirror Mage (Dragon's Gift: The Huntress Book 2) by Linsey Hall

Book Blurb

Cass Clereaux likes her job. It’s simple—steal the magic, don’t get killed. FireSouls like her are perfect for magic treasure hunting. Their dragon soul helps them find treasure, their wicked powers help them steal it. But there’s a big freaking downside—FireSouls are hunted. If either of the magical governments figures out what she is, she can kiss her life goodbye.

When the Alpha Council comes to her with a special job, it’s a no-brainer to turn it down, no matter how much money they’re offering. Shifters who can sniff out her weird magic are the last supernaturals she needs to be around. Worse? They have a history of hunting FireSouls. But when Cass learns that a little girl’s life is at stake and Cass is her last hope, she doesn’t have a choice.

With her friends and the powerful Shifter Aidan Merrick at her back, she’s got a chance at saving the girl and keeping her deadly secret—until she learns there’s far more to this kidnapping than meets the eye.

Mirror Mage can be enjoyed as a stand-alone, but it will be a bit better if read after Ancient Magic.

Toot's Review by Stacy Sabala

Cass is back and she is training to control her powers.  Aidan, the Origin, is helping her.  He knows her secret and has her back.  She, Nix and Del are staying under the radar.  They are recovering losses sustained in the attack on their shop.  Cass continues to find magic to sell and keeping their secret of being firesouls
Cass gets recruited by the shifters to help find a missing child.  This child is special and controls the Heartstone.  Cass gets pulled into her past as her memories start to resurface.  Cass is worried others will learn her secret and imprison her like the other firesouls.  She also learns more of Aidan’s story.  Her feelings for him start to grow unexpectedly.  She also makes sacrifices she never thought she would make.  When she comes face to face with her biggest nightmare, her life is never going to be the same.
I love this series.  These three witches are fun to read about.  Cass seems the most cautious when it comes to people and the most wild when it comes to her jobs.  She is an independent character that holds her secrets close.  It fascinates me that we don’t know much about her or her sisters.
They have no memory of what has happened to them.  Then the author starts to introduce these dreams that Cass has.  So the reader starts to learn little bits at a time.

Cass is a great character.  She tries to do the right thing.  She even sacrifices for others.  The budding relationship between she and Aidan is sweet.  They are two different people yet seem to have lots in common.  I loved this story and how Cass gets closer to the truth.  I can’t wait to read the next book.  This one gets a 4 out of 5.
