Review: Dark Alpha's Night: A Reaper Novel (Reapers Book 5) by Donna Grant

Book Blurb

There is no escaping a Reaper. I am an elite assassin, part of a brotherhood that only answers to Death. And when Death says your time is up, I'm coming for you...

To some Fae, I am their worst nightmare. For I do Death’s bidding. But for all our strength and skill, a powerful enemy has risen up. Finding Ettie could change everything. The Half-Fae is our one chance. She’s sharp and strong and fierce. She steals my breath every time I'm near her. And looking into her eyes is like a bolt of lightning right through me. She’s what I’ve been waiting for my long, dark existence. But for us to be together, we must first stay alive…

Toot's Review by Stacy Sabala

Daire is pulled from observing Rhi and given a choice of joining the rest of the reapers by Death.  Bran is up to something and getting stronger.  They can’t kill him, and he can’t kill them.  It’s almost a stalemate.  The reapers need to find someone that can harm him.  They go in search for his descendants.
It leads Daire to Ettie and her sisters.  Bran is there trying to get them to join his side.  They also have something he wants.  Daire joins forces with the sisters to try and figure out what Bran wants.  He is also drawn to Ettie.  She is a half-ling and there is more to her than meets the eyes.  She has been training and preparing for something all her life, she just doesn’t know what.
Daire and Ettie grow close as Bran tries to trick her into giving him what he wants.  When he threatens the most important things in her life, she finds out who she can count on.
I love the reapers series.  Daire has been following Rhi and I wondered how he would fit into the story.  I was surprised the author wrote this particular story for him in terms of meeting Ettie and how.  I though he would be more involved with Rhi for a while, but it will be interesting to see the direction the author takes it.  The war is really heating up and Bran seems to be gaining a lot of ground.  With the addition of the women in the reapers’ lives makes Bran even more set on revenge.  There is a lot of intrigue and battles between groups.  Bran is making strides in his battle with Death, staying one step ahead of the reapers.

The tension is building as Death grows weaker.  The reader is pulled in quickly and the story holds you.  I couldn’t put the book down as I flew through the story.  It was a great addition.  I give it a 4 out of 5.
