Toot's Review by Stacy Sabala
Kate, her
sister and her best friend are going to their favorite place for the weekend
without their parents. It makes Kate nervous to leave her mother when she is
sick. Her mother never gets sick. But her step-father assures her everything is
fine, and they should go.
They go, and
everything is going fine until Kate starts seeing this strange light. Her sister can see it too. They track it to their favorite swimming
place. The author then throws them into
a different world. They are instantly attacked,
and Kate pushes her sister back through the portal. Brad is gravely wounded, and they are taken
to an underground base. It is a bit
confusing for both character and reader, but Kate learns more as the story
progresses. She comes face to face with
the man in her dreams which is shocking to her.
She can’t believe he is real. She
is pulled into this ongoing war as the darkness engulfs the world and she is
the savior appointed by the gods to save it.
The author
reveals the true story behind her family and who they really are. Kate must come to terms with this new life
and the abilities she is developing. The
dreams seem to be warnings as Arland is her protector. The story continues as Kate trains and
prepares herself. They also try to find
a way back to her mother and sister.
They believe her mother is the only hope of saving Brad’s life and
sending him home. Kate does well coming
to terms with who she really is. Her
fears are easy to see but she pushes through them. Her character is strong and brave. A great heroine.
The
situation with Brad is sad as things get worse. She must make tough choices. Then the ending was surprising. I didn’t see that coming at all. It sets things up for the next book, but
Kate’s challenges are almost impossible to overcome. I can’t wait to read the next book. This book is a 4 out of 5.
