Book Blurb
For Elise, who lost her first cousin to a grisly murder, Axe’s dangerous appeal is enticing—and possibly a distraction from her grief. But as they delve deeper into her cousin’s death, and their physical connection grows into so much more, Axe fears that the secrets he keeps and his tortured conscience will tear them apart.
Rhage, the Brother with the biggest heart, knows all about self-punishing, and he wants to help Axe reach his full potential. But when an unexpected arrival threatens Rhage and Mary’s new family, he finds himself back in the trenches again, fighting against a destiny that will destroy all he holds most dear.
As Axe’s past becomes known, and fate seems to be turning against Rhage, both males must reach deep—and pray that love, rather than anger, will be their lantern in the darkness.

Toot's Review by Stacy Sabala
Axe is in
the training program for the Brotherhood.
He despises the glymeria because of his father’s death. He is alone living in the house his father
built for his mother. It didn’t work,
she left him anyway.
Now he has
been hired to protect a female member of the gymeria. Elise isn’t what he thought. She doesn’t judge him or look down on
him. He is definitely drawn to her.
Elise is
missing something herself. Her family is
completely closed after her cousin’s death.
No one ever talks about it. She
is determined to finish her PhD in psychology and welcomes the compromise of
Axe’s protection. She is also drawn to
him. He lights a spark that she is
missing. They grow closer quickly.
Axe fears
her. He refuses to end up like his
father and knows this has to end badly.
However, when Elise is thrust into his world fighting Lessers, he
realizes how he really feels about her.
He is determined to protect her.
When Elise
learns the truth about her cousin and a few things Axe is hiding, she doesn’t
know what to do as her trust broken. She
has to do what she feels she needs to do.
I love this
author and the Brotherhood books. I
enjoy revisiting Rhage and Mary in this book as they deal with family
issues. Seeing the brothers support them
and teach the recruits is one of my favorite parts. The story about the training and battles the
recruits are involved in continues the traditions the Brothers started.
Axe is
definitely a troubled character in this group.
His childhood and issues with his parents really did a number on
him. His demons are many and uses
anything to alleviate his pain. I like
that Elise knocks him on his butt. It is
an instant connection. Watching it
unfold was fun to read. His reactions were
pretty visual. Then add the animosity
that Peyton shows. There is a lot of
under current tensions going on. The
author slips in several mini stories that develop. The book is a fast read that I couldn’t put
down. I love this series. Great read and addition. I give it a 4.5 out of 5.
