Toot's Review by Stacy Sabala
Lil lives with her grandfather. Her mother and grandmother were killed in a car accident when she was small. She and her grandfather have moved around a lot. Her grandfather was an illusionist for a circus for years. She is now in a new place and preparing to start a new school. She just turned sixteen and has been hearing a few distant voices buzzing in her head but she dismisses telling her grandfather. She just assumes she inherited the gift of hearing spirits from her gypsy grandmother.
Little does she know she is very wrong. Her life changes forever when she hears a boy call to her. He asks her to meet him at the Raven Tree. Lil believes he is a spirit and is surprised to find a real person. Bran needs the help of her grandfather and reveals a few secrets to Lil in the process. She is completely shocked. In fact she doesn’t believe a word of it at first. She is a guardian in training and her grandfather has been the leader of the guardians for centuries. Lil has her own powers. In fact she loses control of them when she is hit with the truth. The other guardians are shocked at her abilities and strength. Lil is faced with the decision to join the other guardian trainees or not. She also has a fascination with Bran. She is drawn to him in a way she has never felt before. When things get dangerous and demons start learning of her existence, Lil turns to those she needs to save those she loves. She comes face to face with her father. Her world is never going to be the same, even the new one she was starting to accept.
This is the prequel to the Guardian Legacy Series. I decided to read this first to start the series. I think it will make more sense in the long run as I read through the series. It gave a lot of background stories for the characters and guardians. It also gave a strong base to build onto.
It introduces the characters and explains how they meet. It also shows how Eden is suddenly thrust into the world of guardians and demons. In fact she seems to have an important role in the war that is being waged. This book was a great introduction to an intriguing series. I can’t wait to read the next book. I give this a 4 out of 5.

Lil isn't just an average teenager. She's one of the Nephilim--the descendants of humans and angels--which gives her some serious psi skills and a mission for redemption. Just when Lil thinks she's found a balance between her normal life with human friends and her training to become a Guardian, she's warned that someone close to her will betray her. When the boy she loves starts acting strangely and one of her human friends acquires a supernatural ability, Lil begins to realize that someone is manipulating the people she loves... and won't stop until she's been lured to the dark side.

Toot's Review by Stacy Sabala
Lil is trying to get a handle on her powers and the fact that the demon Valafar is her father. She doesn’t trust him and wants nothing from him. She wants to be a part of her Cardinal Guardian Trainee group, hangout with her human friends and be with Bran.
Of course once Coronis Isle was destroyed and Coronis defeated, the groups of demons are fighting for control. Since Lil has the Kris Dagger, all groups of demons want her. Valafar is also trying to get her to come and live with him. He is sending her gifts and calling her. She refuses to be manipulated by him. He even forbids her from going hunting with her guardian group.
Lil continues going on missions with her friends and Bran. Coronis’ list is top priority for Bran. He is searching for it with everything he has. He isn’t telling Lil everything about the list. Secrets are being kept from Lil. She is questioning herself, her friends, her grandfather, the Cardinals and even Bran. The seeds of doubt have been planted by Valafar. However Lil refuses to stop what she is doing. She goes into battle using what her new teacher has been practicing with her. She is growing stronger and doing things no one thought she could.
She is pulled into the middle of the battle for supreme ruler of the demons. Bran’s secrets come out and devastates Lil but she refuses to give up. The betrayal of one she trusted sends her into a tailspin. Then she comes fact to face with her father again.
This is the first official book of the series. I suggest reading the prequel first though. It explains a lot that happens in this book. In fact this book picks up where Awakened leaves off. Lil continues her training and trying to fit in. Her relationships hit a few bumps in this book. She doubts her guardian friends. She is at odds with her human friends which surprises her. Then she and Bran have issues and secrets that cause a devastating distance between them. You feel Lil’s frustration, hurt and confusion. She has no clue what is really going on and the reader doesn’t either until it is revealed to her. I definitely felt angry for her. You side with Lil and want her to win the day.
There is heartbreak in this book. Lil has to question who she trusts and the motives of those around her. The author threw a traitor in the midst. So the mystery of who and why advances the story in to new areas. In fact I was surprised when that person was revealed. I wasn’t expecting it. Great story and ending. I give it a 4 out of 5.
