Review: Shatter Me (The Jaded Series, #1) by Alex Grayson

Book Blurb

I'm running, as fast and as far as I can. My past is trying to shatter me, but I am determined not to let it. I've come this far, I won't let it break me now.

I had to stop in a small town to get enough money to run again, but I found myself wanting to stay. The reason? Jaxon Walker. He doesn't make me so afraid. He comforts me. But how much comfort will it take before my walls shatter? And what happens when my past finds me? Will it destroy me finally or could Jax possibly save me?

My name is Bailey Winsor and this is my story.

Toot's Review by Stephanie Silva

I got the book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Shatter Me is the first book in the Jaded Series but it can be read as a standalone. It tells the story of Bailey, a woman that has been marked for life by her husband Justin. Verbally, physically and sexually abused by her husband and friends, Bailey runs away from her tragic life with the help of her best friends. She doesn’t hope for a happily ever after or even to get a stable job and settle somewhere because her husband has eyes and ears everywhere but sometimes fate has other plans.

Enter Jaxon Walker, sexy bar owner with an intimidating aura and a pair of eyes that you could stare at forever. Jaxon has his own demons; he trusted the wrong people so many years ago and ends up losing a couple of loved ones. He hasn’t forgiven himself yet and when he sees the jumpy woman that just became his bartender, he can’t stop his protective instincts to kick in and make him want to shelter her from everything and everyone that might cause her harm.

The question is...can two broken souls heal each other or will their pasts are too strong to overcome?

This story was quite a rollercoaster. I went from wanting to throttle some characters, to laughing at the silly stunts others did to crying because of the pain others were going through. I was so immersed on the plot that I couldn’t put it down and even finished it in record time. Without a doubt, it is a page turner.

My favorite character is Jaxon. Who wouldn’t fall in love with such a kind and protective man? He had his moments of alpha male but most of the times he played the sweet and understanding guy that was doing his very best to get Bailey out of her shell of mistrust. Besides, I loved his indigo/violet eyes. No wonder our girl there got lost on them so many times. On the other hand, I just hated the violent and abusive husband. How could he do all those things to our girl. The few things that I said about him are nothing but just the very tip of all the horrible things he did. Therefore, be ready to hate him. There was a point where I so wanted to get inside of the book to slap him. But moving to better things, I assure you all that the ending will make us for all the suffering that the characters and readers will go through. It’s kind of bittersweet, though, so be prepared for it.

I must do a fair warning to the readers. This book contains strong language, consensual and non-consensual sexual acts and domestic violence. Therefore, I recommend it for mature readers.

4.5 stars
