In the latest novel from the Hard Ink Series, The ex-soldiers are still on the hunt for information. They need to find the truth behind Colonel Merrit’s actions to clear their names. They are all still crashed above the tattoo shop, Hard Ink, Nick and Jeremy own. Becca and Charlie have joined the group, along with Sara and Jenna. Marz is amazed at how the guys are finding someone special. He is a bit jealous, but has too much on his plate now.
The guys think that Manny Garza is their best link between Church and the Colonel. So finding him is top priority. Marz has to do recon with Beckett watching Garza’s sister, Emilie. Marz is appointed the one to keep Emilie busy while Beckett searches her house.
Derek is surprised how much he likes her from the start. His gut tells him she isn’t involved, but when drugs are found on her property, he isn’t quite sure what to believe. He also seems to be getting too close to the asset as the search for Garza heats up.
Emilie is worried about her brother, to the point that she wants him evaluated. She places an order to have him picked up. She doesn’t know what is going on with him but she feels it is pretty bad. Meeting Derek becomes a highlight in her life lately. Until her brother’s antics catch up with her and the truth about who Derek is comes out. Emilie is shocked at the lies and the actions of both men. She is torn about what to do with either of them.
I love this series and have been with the Hard Ink men from the beginning. There are a lot of twists and turns in each book. This book, which is Derek’s story, is not different. The stake outs and gathering of intel were jam packed with anxiety as well as combat. The story is filled with some tough decisions on the part of the characters, some scary moments, and some talk dirty moments.
I love the characters and Emilie is a great addition. She came across as a real life person with doubts and insecurities. She was human which made me like her even more. I hope for more books in this series. I give it a 4 out of 5.
