Author Interview

Hi Avery,

Thank you so much for sitting down with Toot's for an interview. If you don't mind, I have some questions for you about your new book, Enemies on Tap and your process for our budding authors as well as fans.

Thank you so much for having me!!!

So first off, Enemies on Tap Questions.......

In your own words, what is Enemies on Tap about?

One part Romeo and Juliet, one part Hatfields vs the McCoys and five gazillion parts sexy fun.

How did you come up with the title of the book and can you tell us its significance?

It’s an enemies to lovers tale with the fight over a failing brewery at its heart so Enemies on Tap fits it perfectly. :)

Is Enemies on Tap a standalone book or will it be part of a series?

It’s the first in the Sweet Salvation Brewery series. The second book will be out in the fall and the third will be out in early 2015.

What genre would you say Enemies on Tap is and what sets your book apart for fans of the genre?

It’s a contemporary romance and I think what sets it apart is the sassy and the banter between Logan and Miranda. One reviewer said it was a modern Hepburn and Tracy and I loved that!

What are some of the elements of the world you created?

Salvation is the gossipiest little town in Virginia filled with characters who will make you want to hug ‘em or smack ‘em. Plus there’s pie, which is always good.

If you had to pick one thing, what is your favorite thing about the world you’ve created?

Besides Miranda, Logan and the brewery? I have to go with Ruby Sue and her diner, The Kitchen Sink. She speaks her mind and doesn’t care who hears her.

What was your favorite scene to write for either your hero or heroine in Enemies on Tap?

The vault scene. Oh my goodness. Hot. Hot. Hot.

What was the hardest scene to write?

The end. It’s always hardest to say goodbye.

What's your favorite line or quote from Enemies on Tap?

“And suddenly, her day turned into the kind that explained why God invented chocolate, comfy pants, and booze.”

Writing.......

Do you recall how your interest in writing originated and what made you decide to pursue it as a career?

I got a blue Brother typewriter in grade school and that was it for me. :)

What inspires you to put the pen to paper or fingers to the keyboard?

The stories running around in my head.

What are some of the elements in/of your writing process?

Does coffee count? LOL. Usually, I figure out the story, talk it out with critique partners, plot out the beats and then start writing.

Are you a Plotter or a Panster?

A mix of both.

Have you released anything under a different pen name, and if so, is there any difference between them?

Nope. It’s all Avery. :)

What's next for you?

We’re finishing up edits on the second Sweet Salvation Brewery book, which will be out in October. Plus, I just turned in the third Killer Style book.

Is there anything you’d like to add or say to your fans?

*waves* HI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Personal questions......

Now I know this is like asking you to choose between your own children, but out of all your amazing characters, who is your favorite and why?

No favorites here. I love them all for different reasons—even the villains.

Are there any of your stories or characters that hold a special place in your heart?

You never forget your first so I’ll always have a soft spot for Clare and Jake in Temptation Creek.

If the book had to have a theme song, what would it be?

You’ve totally stumped me. I’m open to ideas though! :)

Lastly, What 5 things do fans not know about you and 5 they don't know about the book?

About me:

1. My hair no longer remembers what it’s original color was.

2. Parsnips are my favorite vegetable.

3. I grew up in Nebraska but never rooted for the Cornhuskers.

4. I secretly like Taylor Swift songs.

5. I cannot dance to save my life, but I love doing it anyway.

About Enemies on Tap:

1. It was originally titled Sweet Plan Ale.

2. It’s the first straight contemporary romance novel I’ve written.

3. I crowd sourced Ruby Sue’s character name.

4. Pecan pie is the Fab Mr. Flynn’s favorite and that’s why I picked it.

5. Logan’s best friend Hud also makes an appearance in my novella, Betting the Billionaire.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for taking time to answer some questions. Congratulations on the new book and I can't wait for everyone to read it!

Thank you so much for having me!!!

Author Info

Avery Flynn has three slightly-wild children, loves a hockey-addicted husband and is desperately hoping someone invents the coffee IV drip.

She fell in love with romance while reading Johanna Lindsey's Mallory books. It wasn't long before Avery had read through all the romance offerings at her local library. Needing a romance fix, she turned to Harlequin's four books a month home delivery service to ease the withdrawal symptoms. That worked for a short time, but it wasn't long before the local book stores' staffs knew her by name.

Avery was a reader before she was a writer and hopes to always be both. She loves to write about smartass alpha heroes who are as good with a quip as they are with their *ahem* other God-given talents. Her heroines are feisty, fierce and fantastic. Brainy and brave, these ladies know how to stand on their own two feet and knock the bad guys off theirs.
