Olivia Montgomery is shocked to see her high school crush, Zach Pearson, standing at the door of her college French class. She thought she left her painful interactions with him in the past. Apparently life decided to throw her a curve.
Zach is also surprised to see Olivia in his college French class. He always thought she was hot in high school, but also a snob. There was another reason he stayed away from her which was complicated. Now he comes face to face with her again. He is torn about how to handle the situation.
Olivia and Zach decide to be friends or at least try. When Zach stops talking to her and basically ignores her, Olivia confronts him. She wants to know why he doesn’t like her. Once the air is clear, Olivia finds it difficult being just friends. She has a strong attraction to Zach. She almost ruins things when she accuses him of starting a nasty rumor. Their school trip to Paris changes everything. They grow closer and Olivia falls hard.
Olivia’s world starts to fall apart when a secret about her mother comes out. That along with Zach continuing to keep in touch with his ex-girlfriend sends her spinning. She is unsure what to do about anything.
This was a fun read. The reader knows all about the secrets before Olivia does. So while she flounders trying to figure out the whys of everything going on, the reader already knows watching things as they unfold and all the reactions.
The romance between Zach and Olivia was rocky, full of doubt, hurt and attraction. It was easy to read and in fact I read it in a day. So it’s a great beach day read. I give it a 4 out of 5.
