Book Blurb
Jessica Fury, Washington lobbyist, has money, connections, and her own firm. But five years ago she had something better: happiness. Her firefighter husband, Quaid, was handsome, courageous, and crazy about her. Then one day he walked into a chemical inferno—and never walked out. Jessica has been through hell to get back on her feet. And then a rumor surfaces that could bring a miracle or shatter her world – again.
Q has been a prisoner forever. He’s honed his mind and body into weapons. He’s developed abilities no one else understands. But he’s still at the mercy of a cabal of ruthless men, who blank his memory, test him like a lab rat, and tell him lies. Although his past has been erased and his future looks grim, instinct tells him he has a woman to live for. What his mind can’t remember, his body can’t forget…
The heat is on.

Toot's Review by Stacy Sabala
Five years ago Quaid supposedly died and his wife Jessica might as well have died with him. Her life stopped as she sank into depression and drugs. She embraced a non-life just to cope without him. She's been on the road to recovery for a year now, so when word spreads that Quaid might still be alive, she refuses to even hope knowing she wouldn’t survive losing him again.
Quaid and Jessica were on the same firefighting team when the warehouse exploded. They thought the explosion killed Quaid and then left the rest of the team changed with paranormal abilities. Since then, Jessica has completely separated herself from the team. Revenge is now the primary goal guiding her life.
When the teams finds out that Quaid is alive they are shocked. The team has to come to terms with the situation after they mourned their friend. They support Quaid and Jessica as they reunite trying to find their way forward from the heartache their separation caused.
Quaid was a man with no memory of who he was and identity to prove who he could be. He had been the subject of medical experiments for the last four years. He has no idea of his life before the explosion.
Rush is the third installment in the Phoenix Rising series by romantic suspense author Joan Swan.
Both characters are wounded, even broken and the reader isn’t sure they will be able to overcome it. They have to move forward from this point and make a new life.
This story is full of high emotion and angst, my favorite. The suspense is ever present in the storyline as it unfolds. The team is united again and determined not to fall apart or let any members slip away. The group cohesion is a good foundation of the story.
The author did a great job of portraying the pain and difficulties the characters had to face with the initial loss and the unexpected return of Quaid. It created almost a surreal dynamic to their lives they had to work hard to make sense of. I give it a 4 out of 5.
