Former Special Forces.
One last mission.
These are the men of Hard Ink.
Ever since hard-bodied, drop-dead-charming Shane McCallan strolled into the dance club where Crystal Dean works, he’s shown a knack for getting beneath her defenses. For her little sister’s sake, Crystal can’t get too close. Until her job and Shane’s mission intersect, and he reveals talents that go deeper than she could have guessed.
Shane would never turn his back on a friend in need, especially a former Special Forces teammate running a dangerous, off-the-books operation. Nor can he walk away from Crystal. The gorgeous waitress is hiding secrets she doesn't want him to uncover. Too bad. He’s exactly the man she needs to protect her sister, her life, and her heart. All he has to do is convince her that when something feels this good, you hold on as hard as you can—and never let go.

Toot's Review by Stacy Sabala
Crystal Dean is a waitress at a strip club called Confessions. Her life is not her own. She works in the club to pay off her father’s debt after he is killed in prison. She is now mixed in this world of organized crime with Jimmy Church and his men. Bruno Ashe is her boyfriend. He made a deal with her father to keep her safe and help take care of her sister Jenna. He uses Crystal and has taken over her life. She has come up with a plan to leave as soon as Jenna graduates college.
Her life changes when she decides to help Shane McCallan rescue a prisoner from the basement of the club. She can’t believe she helped them and now her fear for herself is higher, but she did the right thing.
Shane was shocked at Crystal’s help and is now worried about her safety. He is determined to make sure she is all right and just maybe she knows something that will help. Shane and his team are still trying to find out how the Colonel turned on them and why. They are slowly gathering information. After they were able to rescue Becca’s brother from Confessions, they want to know why Jimmy Church kidnapped him and if this has anything to do with Colonel Merrick. Crystal becomes the link to Confessions and Shane decides to protect her as she risks her life to help. When the situation gets more dangerous Crystal has to trust Shane to keep her safe and the feelings she has developed for him.
This is the second book in the Hard Ink series. I really love this series. It is full of tough men who are searching for the truth. Past betrayal when they were in the Army by commanding officers is a major theme.
The main characters of this novel are Shane and Crystal. Shane is trying to live with the guilt of his little sister’s disappearance sixteen years ago. Crystal is trying to survive a world she was thrown into when her father died.
Crystal is skittish and trusts no one but her sister. It was fun to watch Shane be gentle as he earned her trust. He was a sigh worthy man with a southern accent to boot. His actions and determination toward Crystal are what fantasies are made of. He was completely yummy in my mind as I read the book. I can’t wait for the next book. I give it a 4 out of 5.
