Review : Before You Break (Between Breaths #2) by Christina Lee (NA)

Book Blurb

A sexy, emotional New Adult romance about a bad boy on the edge and a good girl about to lose control…

The star catcher of the college baseball team isn't supposed to have skeletons in his closet. But Daniel Quinn is hiding a guilty past so dark he refuses to let anyone get close. Except there’s something about gorgeous, studious Ella Abrams that goes beyond the electric attraction between them—something that makes him want to open up.

Ella has suffered enough heartache and guilt to fill one of her psychology textbooks, but she keeps that part of herself hidden behind a bubbly exterior. Until she receives an anonymous call while working the suicide helpline and the voice on the other end touches something inside of her that she can’t ignore.

Soon Ella and Quinn’s physical connection heats up, even as their deep and revealing hotline talks intensify. But by the time Ella realizes that her seductive jock and her sensitive caller are the same guy, it might be too late to save him—or to stop herself from falling too far.

*A companion novel to ALL OF YOU

Toot's Review by Stacy Sabala

Ella is short for Gabriella. She has a big Polish family and lives with her best friend while she is in college. She also had a brother who committed suicide when she was in high school. As a result she is studying Psychology and works the suicide help hotline. She wants to understand why Christopher killed himself and help others in the process. It helps with her own healing.

She has also been dating Joel. They have a connection. He knows her family and even knew her brother. They share memories and he understands her pain. However, lately things haven’t been going well. She has doubts about him and his faithfulness. She doesn’t know if she is hanging on for her or for Christopher.

Quinn is the catcher on the TSU baseball team. He is also a member of the fraternity with Joel. He doesn’t like how Joel treats Ella, but there is nothing he can do. He doesn’t want to find himself in a similar situation that ruined his life and killed his best friend. He isn’t worthy enough for Ella. In fact the guilt is getting to him. He doesn’t know how much longer he can live Sebastian’s life.

A call made to the suicide hotline changes both Ella’s and Quinn’s lives. They both have to face their loss and the guilt they feel before they are able to move forward.

This is the first book by this author I have read. I am completely hooked. I am a sucker for tortured souls which Quinn and Ella fit perfectly. I loved the connection they had and the chemistry was hot. The author developed two characters who fit well together. I liked how Quinn chased Ella a bit, but in a gentlemanly way.

The loss and guilt that both characters dealt with added depth to the storyline. The reader sympathizes with both characters and invests in their stories. I am going to go back and read Avery’s story. I also can’t wait to read Rachel’s story coming soon. I give Ella’s story a 4 out of 5.
