Toot's Review by Stacy Sabala

Mina Grime has the worst luck. She is a complete klutz. Her mother freaks out when some of the stranger things happen to her and moves them elsewhere. It’s just Mina, her mom and her younger brother Charlie. They live above a Chinese restaurant and Mina goes to a private high school. Her partner in crime is Nan Taylor, who has been her friend for two years. Nan could be the most popular girl at school if she tried, but she is happy to be as she is and Mina is thankful for her only friend.

Mina’s mom has been skittish lately, so she hasn’t been telling her about the strange things she has encountered. One day when on a field trip with her class, she has a life changing experience. She saves her crush’s life. Brody almost falls from the catwalk in a bakery factory, but Mina jumps up and grabs a hold of his backpack before he can fall and holds him there until other students help pull him up. Brody is the most popular boy in school and her heroic acts make the news. With Mina in the news her mom has to reveal the family secrets. Mina is from the family of the famous Grimm brothers and her family has been cursed. They have to beat the fairy tales in order to close the gate that allows the Fae to cross into the human world.

Mina is shocked but knows she is the one the story has chosen. She has to beat the curse. She refuses to let her little brother Charlie shoulder the responsibility. She will protect her family and rise up to meet what the story throws at her. She has to.

This is a unique story. It is the first in the series and poor Mina is blind-sided. I like how the story unfolds and a romance seems to progress with Mina and Brody. She isn’t alone with her tasks with the fairy tales.

I liked the characters and how they handled what was thrown at them. I also thought the author provided some excellent twists and turns in the story. I did feel sorry for Mina at the end, but I can’t wait to see what happens next. I recommend this story to everyone. It is a great beginning to a fun series. I give it a 4 out of 5.
