Music critic Claire Abby is a single mom dreading her daughter’s departure for college and worried that turning forty will leave her career running on fumes. She’s floored when she lands a Rolling Stone cover story on 80s British rock legend Christopher Penman. She spent her teenage years fantasizing he was her boyfriend.
In person, Christopher is everything Claire feared he’d be—charming, witty, and unwilling to address the rumors he’s dodged for a decade. Still, she contains her adolescent fantasies and manages to earn his trust, unearthing the truth and the devastating secret behind it. His blockbuster story is her first priority when she returns home, a nearly impossible task when Christopher starts calling and flirting. She knows she should maintain a professional distance. She knows she should focus on the story. She knows it would be best to simply walk away. But how can she say “no” to the man she could never forget?

Toot's Review
In Bring Me Back, we meet our heroine, Claire Abby, who is a struggling freelance writer, mainly for major magazines and the single mother of a teenage girl named Sam, short for Samantha. Claire and Sam have practically grown up together and are very, very close. As Sam gets older, Claire, like any woman in her later years, looks back on her younger days with fondness. One of her fondest being her obsession with a popular 80's British rock band called Banks Forest and one of their band members named Christopher Penman in particular. When one of her magazine's comes calling about doing an interview with a has-been rocker trying to reignite his career, Claire jumps at the chance, only to find out it's with the infamous Christopher Penman. Claire is absolutely beside herself. She has dreamed all her life of meeting her idol/dream man, let alone interviewing him. Flipin' out of this world beyond excited would be more like it. Anywho, as excited as she is, she can't let on that she's a major fan. That would just be unprofessional and seeing as how this is how she makes her money to feed her starving teen, she needs to keep it together, although it seems that Mr. Penman has other ideas. From the get-go, he throws her off her game. Rather than a plain boring interview, in a plain room, he flips the script and he wines and dines her, totally playing into her rock star fantasy. Even though the interview was a bit off kilter, the two find that they do really like each other and strike up a friendship that eventually leads to more. Unfortunately all is not sunshine and roses for the pair and things slowly start to unravel. As with life, everything can change in the blink of an eye. As tragedy strikes the two lovers, Claire soon discovers that everyone around her seems to have their own life's agenda and they all seem incapable of talking to her about it, in turn, bringing her own life crashing all round her. Will Chris and Claire be able to get past the baggage in their lives to find a HEA?
Back Forever is the continuation of Chris and Claire's story. The two has gone through some major ups and downs but one thing they do know, they want it to be in each others' lives whether as lovers or as friends, it doesn't matter. The two have a strong bond and will always be there for each other no matter what. Now, let's see what else life can throw at them?
I think the perfect summation for these two books and characters is a quote at the end of Back Forever......"Right. It's called life. We're living it. Remember?"
I don't think I could have found a better way, than that one line to summarize the spirit of the overall story. These books are unlike anything I've ever read. It's not super duper sexy or erotic, it's not your typical billionaire or rock star romance or anything like that. It's two wonderfully written real characters that are so very, very different from each other but by sheer will, want to be together and find a way to make that happen. When we meet them in the beginning, they couldn't be more opposite but as we learn what makes them tick, we realize that even though their professional and personal lives are very different, their hearts desires are similar. They both want a lasting relationship built on friendship and family. No fantasies, no Cinderella stories, just two people who see a partner in the other for the journey called life. Now with all that being said, is there strife - yes, is there asshole-ery - hellz yes, is there sweet, tender and romantic moments - of course, is there the "OH CRAP" moment - yes and is there the predictable - yep and with all these great moments, I would totally tell you to pick up these two books!
Author Info
Karen Booth is a Midwestern girl transplanted in the South, raised on 80s music, Judy Blume, and the films of John Hughes. An early preoccupation with rock ‘n’ roll led her to spend her twenties working her way from intern to executive in the music industry. Much of her writing revolves around the world of backstage passes and band dynamics. When she isn't creating fictional musicians, she's listening to everything from to Duran Duran to Otis Redding with her kids, honing her Southern cooking skills or sweet-talking her astoundingly supportive husband into whipping up a batch of cocktails.
