Review : Night's Promise (Children of The Night #6) by Amanda Ashley (PNR)

Book Blurb

For beautiful heiress Sheree West, vampires are more than a fantasy. They are an obsession. Night after night, she dresses in black and immerses herself in L.A.'s goth club scene. Searching for a lover who is more than a man. A creature of the dark who lusts for her blood. A legend who lives in the shadows and not just her dreams. Then, one fateful night, she meets him. . .

Derek Blackwood is no ordinary vampire. Descended from a bloodline as old as Cleopatra, and blessed with unearthly powers of seduction, he is everything Sheree wished for—and more. When he takes her in his arms, she is powerless. When he kisses her neck, she is his. But when the full moon rises—and passions flare—something is unleashed in Derek that he's never felt before. Something wild. Something dangerous. Something no vampire can control or stop. . .even for the woman he loves.

Toot's Review by Stacy Sabala

Sheree believes in vampires and she is determined to find one. She is living in LA and has a list of night clubs to visit. She is on a mission. She knows she is right.

Darek Blackwood is an anomaly. He is the son of Mara, the queen of the vampires. He is one of few born a vampire. When he sees Sheree in his favorite club, he is instantly drawn to her. He buys her a drink and makes plans to see her again. He visits her during the night. He can’t stay away. She finds herself drawn to him also. The more time they spend together the farther she falls.

When Darek’s world enters Sheree’s and threatens her, Darek tries to protect her by staying away. It is impossible for him to do. She calms him like no other and he decides he needs her. Sheree learns what he truly is but something else is happening to him that he can’t stop. She has to decide if she can stay with him or be safe. You have to be careful what you wish for.

I really like the Night Series from this author. I have read most of them and am familiar with the characters. I would recommend them all for everyone to read. It was fun to read about the family of characters that she has developed and catch up a bit.

Darek was an awesome character. He was different in the fact he was born to a vampire mother. That is a fascinating storyline in itself. Then add in the werewolf angle and I was hooked. It was an interesting spin.

Sheree, on the other hand, was not my favorite character. She spent a lot of time changing her mind which annoyed me. There were moments when she acted like a spoiled child and it did not endear her to me. However, overall I think that this was a good story and a fabulous addition to the series. I give it a 4 out of 5.
