Book Excerpt

Excerpt (PG-13 for language)

“What’s a girl like you doing at a bar like this?” he asked.

Her voice was a purr, like a cat well satisfied with its stolen pitcher of cream. “I’m looking for someone special.”

Hoping that she meant him he asked, “Did you find him yet?”

“Maybe.” The glint in her eye told him he was definitely in the running. However, I’m not looking to hook up with just any old cowboy. He must be able to go the full eight seconds and come back for more.” She eyed him from head to toe. “Think you can handle that?”

Oh, I can most definitely handle you sweetheart.

Not wanting to seem too eager he replied, “I’m not sure but I’m willing to try.”

“Do or do not. There is no try.” He struggled not to let his grin escape. The fact that she was trying to seduce him made his dick twitch.

“Let’s just say I’m looking to burn off some pent up frustration. A little excess energy. And I’ve got plenty to burn.”

The way she shivered at his words, he knew he almost had her. He winked as she licked her crimson lips and blew out a small breath. Damn what this woman is doing to him.

He pushed her knees apart with his left leg and was rewarded with the amazing scent of her arousal. The knowledge she was wet for him had him close to going off in his jeans.

Houston, we have lift-off!

“Why don’t you have a seat cowboy and we’ll talk about it.”

She gasped when he shocked her with a brush of his lips against hers; fighting with everything he had not to deepen the kiss.

Patience, patience.

He would play her game for the moment but sooner or later, she would be his. Tied up and begging for more.

He asked her, “Now about that eight second ride?”

Interview

Hi Couple from The Couple,

Thank you so much for stopping by Toot's Book Reviews and congratulations on having your story put to paper.

If you don't mind, may I ask you a few questions for your current and soon-to-be fans?

Book....

First, for people who may not know you, Can you tell us a little bit about yourselves?
I’m a stay at home mom with two boys and he is the high school ag teacher at our alma mater.

In your own words, tell us a bit about your short story, The Couple?
Basically its Phil and Claire’s “date night” that finally goes right. Phil and Claire from Modern Family are our favorite television couple. They mess up, have kids but love each other fiercely. That’s us in a nutshell.

How did you feel knowing you were getting your own book?
Oh Harlie is crafty. She didn’t tell us until after the book was published. Wench!

Have you read it or was living it good enough?
Lived it but my cowboy did read it and had some notes attached to it for me. He he!

What is your favorite scene in the book?
Getting our beers and flirting…

Do you have a least favorite scene and if so, what would it be?
Waking up the next morning. ;)

Lady ....

For those who haven't read the book, the book starts off with you meeting a Cowboy, can you tell us about him and what drew you to him?
His butt and the way his jeans would look around his ankles.

What's your favorite thing about him?
His butt.

Just between us and the millions of readers *winks*, what is the most annoying thing about the Cowboy or something he might do that annoys you?
Sometimes the amount of time away from home. I try to go with him to the shows and auctions but we can’t take the boys out of school for everything. I miss him when he’s gone.

If he was Ice Cream, what would his flavor be?
Peppermint

What would be your perfect date for the two of you?
Read the book. That’s our favorite date.

Is there any advice you'd give to people looking for love or couples to spice up their relationship?
Never forget to communicate with each other. The good, the bad and the ugly. Also, date nights are essential.

Cowboy ....

For those who haven't read the book, the book starts off with you meeting a Lady, can you tell us about her and what drew you to her?
Her red hair and corset. I’m a sucker for red hair.

What's your favorite thing about her?
Her ability to still love me after all these years. She puts up with my long hours and still makes time for just us.

Just between us and the millions of readers *winks*, what is the most annoying thing about the Lady or something she might do that annoys you?
She can be very bossy at home. She runs a tight ship but jeez, lighten up sometimes.

If she was Ice Cream, what would her flavor be?
Homemade Vanilla but she is NOT vanilla at all. That flavor reminds me of her skin and smell.

What would be your perfect date for the two of you?
Staying home…in bed!

Is there any advice you'd give to people looking for love or couples to spice up their relationship? Communication, communication, communication. Also, pay attention to the details. You never know what you might learn.

A few random questions....

Favorite Movie:  Her – Star Wars, Him – Blazing Saddles

Favorite Song:  Her – anything by Heart, Him – anything by Garth Brooks

Lastly, what are 5 things fans don't know about you or the book?
This is Harlie: In all seriousness, I wrote this book for my cousin and her husband. He really is an Ag Teacher and they are high school sweethearts. They married two months after graduation and are still going strong after 34 years, 2 boys and 2 grandchildren. She is the big sister that I never had growing up and one of my favorite people in the world. Now my other cousins want books written about them. LOL!

Couple, I can't thank you enough for stopping by.

Now everyone GO BUY THIS BOOK!!!!

Toot's Review

Wow, ok, so didn't see that coming, LOL!

The Couple is a very quick short story about two people whom meet at a bar. There's instant attraction on both ends, a bit of flirting and then off to bed for a one night stand. All very typical but what's not typical is the last paragraph of the story and nope, I'm not giving it away but like I said, totally didn't see that one coming. This is one of those stories that would be ok if left on its own but like any great story, the ending clinches it.

So what the heck do you mean Toot? Well, like any great lover of romance, I read it like it's going out of style and as I was reading this story for the review, things seemed to be very typical of a boy meets girl, boy takes girl home, wham bam thank you ma'am but looking back now, I realize there were hints along the way that things were not as they seemed but again, I'm not saying more but I will say this, it takes a lot to surprise me when it comes to steamy, smexiness and this one sure did.

The story is listed as 20 pages but I think it's even shorter than that. I counted 9 pages of actual story. Anywho, it's quick, steamy and gave me a good laugh at the end. Would be a fabulous read while waiting for the doctor, dentist, kids or for meetings to get started.

Enjoy!

Author Info

When she is not trying to be Super Blogger and reviewing for her own site, Harlie is a stay at home with a 3rd grade son that keeps her busy with all of his stuff. Married for 9 years to her own hero and still madly in love with him, she wouldn’t change a thing about her life. Okay, maybe living in Ireland or New Zealand but those are just pipe dreams.

A certifiable sports nut, she craves college football (OU Sooners and Texas A&M Aggies), Baseball (Texas Rangers and Houston Astros), Dallas Stars hockey and Houston Texans football. After working for the Dallas Stars Hockey Club for 5 years and naming her son after Brian Leetch you’d think she write a hockey story. Nope, been there, done that and the t-shirt is a rag. She prefers just to watch the game now. Less stress.

Harlie loves to hear from readers and other authors. You can find her on Facebook most days. Unless, she’s sitting in the carpool line. The bane of her existence.
