Review : Throne of Glass (Throne of Glass #1) by Sarah J. Maas (YA)

Book Blurb

After serving out a year of hard labor in the salt mines of Endovier for her crimes, 18-year-old assassin Celaena Sardothien is dragged before the Crown Prince. Prince Dorian offers her her freedom on one condition: she must act as his champion in a competition to find a new royal assassin. Her opponents are men-thieves and assassins and warriors from across the empire, each sponsored by a member of the king's council. If she beats her opponents in a series of eliminations, she'll serve the kingdom for three years and then be granted her freedom.

Celaena finds her training sessions with the captain of the guard, Westfall, challenging and exhilirating. But she's bored stiff by court life. Things get a little more interesting when the prince starts to show interest in her... but it's the gruff Captain Westfall who seems to understand her best.

Then one of the other contestants turns up dead... quickly followed by another.

Can Celaena figure out who the killer is before she becomes a victim? As the young assassin investigates, her search leads her to discover a greater destiny than she could possibly have imagined.

Toot's Review by Stephanie Silva

It is said that we all have options. We must choose between good and evil daily but when choosing evil means your only way of survival…things change.

Celaena Sardothien is a notorious assassin also known as The Queen of the Underworld. There isn’t someone that doesn’t know her name or ignore her doings. Trained by Arobynn Hamel, King of the Assassins, since she was a child, she has no say on her future. For her it’s either becoming the greatest assassin that Arobynn want her be or die on the spot. At least she was given a chance…but assassins and thieves are no family…she learned that the hard way.

Sent to the Salt Mines of Endovier after the betrayal of one of her kind she expect nothing at all until a handsome captain and a charming Crown Prince made her a propose that she couldn’t refuse: Become the King´s Champion, pretty words for an assassin at the King´s whines and commands, and get her freedom after 4 years of service or rot in the Salt Mines as she serves her sentence.

As much as she hates the King, her freedom is quite a temptation. Everyone tends to yearn for what they lack and freedom is something she has never experienced.

Celaena is forced to hide her identity while training and competing with ruthless assassins, thieves and soldiers for the position of Champion. She should just focus on winning but a charming price with a great sense of humor and the most gorgeous smile, a strict Captain of the guard who is warming up to her little by little, and a rebel but kind princess make it impossible for her to act cold and distant. Little by little she starts to care for them and without noticing they became important…

Come and join Celaena as she fights an ancient evil that lurks in the Adarlan castle and is threatening to consume much more than just a kingdom.

Would our heroine fulfill her destiny?

Would she let herself fall in love with one of our heroes?

Can an assassin redeem herself and fight for the good of the kingdom if she is given the chance?

4 Stars! :D
