Interview

Hi Brandy,

Thank you so much for sitting down with Toot's for an interview. If you don't mind, I have some questions for you about the series and your process for our budding authors as well as fans, which I am definitely among! I absolutely adored the first book in the series, Everlasting Hunger, and can't wait for the next book.

So first off, Your newest book is part of the Hunger Mate Series. Let's talk about the series as a whole.

In your own words, what is the Hunger Mate Series about?

First of all, thank you for having me today! The Hunger Mates are bonded couples that satisfy a vampire’s eternal hunger. They are predestined and once connected, it is unbreakable.

How did you come up with the idea, title of the series and of the current book, Everlasting Hunger?

The idea was actually my son, Xander’s. I was doing NaNo (National Novel Writing Month) last year and was struggling. I had thrown out a bunch of stuff and we were already two weeks into November. Nothing was working for me. He asked me what my favorite genre was (he is eight so that kinda floored me) and told me to write what I wanted to read. I love vampires so that pointed me in a direction. He asked me if I wanted a drink because I was working so hard and my Drinks were born. The title was always just a working title that started out as a running joke in my family that just stuck. The title fell in place with the help of some friends.

How does the new book, Everlasting Hunger, fit into the series?

Everlasting Hunger is the first book in the story and my first foray into writing (so be gentle with me! LOL). It is the foundation of most of my main characters.

How many books are planned for the series?

I honestly don’t know. I had started with the idea of three and was struggling so I wanted to get it done in two. However, so many of my amazing readers have started asking for more from some of my secondary characters. I will have a short story coming out next month in an anthology called The Stroke of Midnight. I am also currently working on Wicked Desire, Book Two in the series.

What was your favorite scene to write for your hero or heroine in Everlasting Hunger?

My favorite scene is the bonding scene with Ellie and Jasper. I love that guy!

What was the hardest scene to write for Everlasting Hunger?

The assault scene. Most writing has some basis in fact and this one hit close to home for me.

*with a wink* Did anything memorable happen to you, that you wouldn't mind sharing, during the writing of this book?

Lots of stuff! However, the most memorable thing would be when I actually hit the publish button. It didn’t happen. I was so freaked out that I had to have my husband do it for me. He and the kids still tease me about that!

Writing.......

Do you recall how your interest in writing originated and what made you decide to pursue it as a career?

It was always a dream in the back of my mind but I never thought I could succeed. So many other things came first. Last year, my husband was diagnosed with liposarcoma. It is a fairly rare cancer that was caused by a tumor the size of a basketball in his abdomen. It was him that encouraged me to follow my dream. It is not an easy path by any means. I work three jobs, go to school, write and raise a family.

What inspires you to put the pen to paper or fingers to the keyboard?

My husband. Everytime I tell him that I am struggling to find the motivation to write, he tells me that I can do anything I set my mind to and that writing is no different.

What are some of the elements in/of your writing process?

I don’t have a process. I don’t have any idea what my characters are going to do until I am writing it. I write from start to finish and then go back and fill in as needed.

Have you released anything under a different pen name, and if so, is there any difference between them?

Not yet but who knows what the future holds.

What's next for you?

I am just going to continue to write. I have a few signing opportunities next year and I am looking forward to that.

Is there anything you’d like to add before we get into the personal questions?

Don’t give up on your writing. If you want to write, don’t let anyone hold you back. There is always someone out there who wants to read your story. I know a few folks had trouble connecting with my vampires because they don’t fit the traditional mold. That’s okay. I don’t fit a traditional mold either so why would my vamps?

Personal questions......

Now I know this is like asking you to choose between your own children, but out of all your amazing characters, who is your favorite and why?

When I started writing the story, I would have said Ian. However, Jasper developed into this character that wrapped himself around my heart and won’t let go.

Are there any of your stories or characters that hold a special place in your heart?

Ellie. She reminds me of what it is like to be beaten down and to pick yourself up and come back stronger than ever.

What was the last book you read and can you share any thoughts on it?

I just reread Strings and Beats by Kendall Grey. I LOVE those books! She is seriously talented. I read a book or two a day so I am always trying to find new material. It’s probably a good thing that I run a blog and tour with a lot of folks!

Lastly, let's steal an idea from the magazines.....What 5 things do fans not know about you and 5 they don't know about the book?

5 things fans don’t know about me? Hmmm.
One, I listened to a lot of Pink while writing EH.
Two, I am a coffee addict. Seriously, like three pots a day.
Three, a fellow writer wrote me in as a character in her last book. It was pretty awesome!
Four, my favorite song is Redemption by The Strange Familiar.
Five, I have 5 print copies of The Duke and I by Julia Quinn.

Now for Five things about the book.
One, the name Ian was only a placeholder name but the character liked it so he kept it.
Two, Annabelle is named after my half-sister that passed away.
Three, The Princess Bride is my all-time favorite movie which is why it is in the book.
Four, I never had any intention of ever actually publishing.
Five, Belladonna is mentioned because I love the movie Practical Magic.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for taking time to answer some questions. Congratulations on the new book and I can't wait for everyone to read it!
