Contemporary, Paranormal, SciFi, Oh My!

Do you remember the first erotic romance you read? Which sub-genre was it? My first published erotic romance was Dragon Lord’s Mate, a paranormal short story published by Changeling Press featuring a dragon shifter hero and a medieval fantasy world. I LOVED reading paranormal and I also loved writing paranormal. Coming from the farm and having spent most of my childhood running around forests, the shifter heroes really appealed to me. I observed animals closely and I saw how people often acted similarly.
I remember declaring at that time “Cynthia Sax has paranormal erotic romances published and that’s all.” Romance buddies laughed their fool heads off. They knew I’d be tempted by other sub-genres.
And I was soon tempted. When Ellora’s Cave asked the romance writing community for stories set in Canada, I immediately thought of Moonbeam, a small town close to where I grew up. Moonbeam is known as the Roswell of the North. Its landmark is a giant silver spaceship. O-rings, similar to crop circles except in the forest, mysteriously appear.
I LOVED reading SciFi erotic romance and I couldn’t resist submitting Lust by Moonbeam to Ellora’s Cave. This became my very first published SciFi erotic romance. Suddenly, I was publishing stories in two sub-genres.
“This is it,” I told the world. “Cynthia Sax has paranormal and SciFi erotic romances published and nothing else.” My friends laughed some more because they knew I had been writing contemporary erotic romance stories also. I insisted I was writing these stories for my pleasure only.
There was one contemporary erotic romance story I really loved though. I loved everything about it, including the opening scene. In this scene, Anna, the heroine, jumps the neighbor’s fence, strips naked and skinny dips in his backyard pool. She doesn’t think Blaine is home. He is.
I’m a big believer in signs and two signs happened with this story. The first sign was that Changeling Press hosted a flash fiction challenge with a water theme. This made me think of He Watches Me. Then Avon Impulse asked the writing community for contemporary erotic romances. He Watches Me is a contemporary erotic romance and I LOVE the romances published by Avon. I HAD to send He Watches Me to Avon Impulse!
He Watches Me might be my first published contemporary erotic romance but it certainly won’t be my last. He Touches Me and He Claims Me, also releasing this month, continues the story of Anna, our unlikely exhibitionist, and Blaine, our billionaire voyeur.
I have more contemporary erotic romances planned as well as more SciFi and paranormal erotic romances. Reading buddies mean so much to me and I know some reading buddies only read a certain sub-genre. I want to ensure they’re happy.

The Seen Trilogy definitely falls under the Billionaire/Assistant/Fall in Love genre with an erotic twist. What I love about this trilogy is that it's short, LOL (no not what you're thinkin'!). It's got all the great elements you love in your Billionaire/CR lengthy novels and skims it down to nice short novella lengths.
This trilogy is done from our main heroine's POV, Anna Sampson. She's a mousey little thing who loves to be invisible to the outside world. She's an expert at hiding her past, her feelings and even herself but she does have a naughty streak. She loves to be watched, yep the invisible girl wants to be seen and lusted after, or at least in her mind but what she doesn't know, is that she is being watched.
Gabriel Blaine is a ex-con turned billionaire. Every night some naughty neighbor goes skinny dipping in his pool and he loves watching her to the point of obsession. He will do anything to get to know her and eventually possess her but as time goes on, he realizes she's as damaged as he is.
As the stories progress, so does their romance and eventually their HEA. Usually with erotic stories there's an underlying fetish (i.e. BDSM, M/M, multiples, etc.) and this story is no different. It's main kink is Voyeurism, in all shapes and sizes but romance is woven in expertly. Gabriel wants someone to want him, to need him other than for his money. He wants someone to call his own. When he finds Anna and all she wants is a home and protection, the two are nicely matched. She wants to pay her own way by working numerous jobs and house sits but really she is a drifter and is looking for an anchor. Her father was a thief and she feels she lives with his stigma. She never wants to be dependent on anyone but she does long for a home and family. People who will accept her for who she is and not leave her like her own family did.
I found the two characters interesting and a nice twist on the billionaire genre. Blaine is the ultimate alpha male and even has animalistic qualities when his mate is in trouble (one scene reminded me a bit of some shape shifter books I've read, LOL). His obsession with Anna and keeping her safe does tread a fine line of the stalker-ish ilk but it works for the two of them and he does respect her boundaries. She seemed tickled pink that he was always watching her. As if him watching her translated to love for her. Now for Anna, she, as a character, was a bit hot and cold for me. She would be the aggressor one minute, whether it was in bed or in social situations, and weak as a kitten the next, clinging to Blaine like he was some God come to rescue her. If you despise weak woman, you might not like these books. She does have an inner strength and she does find what she needs in their relationship but she never turns into a dominant female, that's just not her. She's happy just being by Blaine's side and having him love and protect her. You won't find the "I am woman, hear me roar!" in this book.
As for the sex, all I can say is DAMN!!! Cynthia knows how to write some hotness!!! Break out the A/C when you go to read this trilogy.
