Book Blurb
In this breathtaking debut that reads like Gossip Girl crossed with Twin Peaks, a Queen Bee at a blue-blooded New England prep school stumbles into a murder mystery.
Anne Dowling practically runs her exclusive academy on New York’s Upper East Side—that is, until she accidentally burns part of it down and gets sent to a prestigious boarding school outside of Boston. Determined to make it back to New York, Anne couldn't care less about making friends at the preppy Wheatley School. That is, until her roommate Isabella’s body is found in the woods behind the school.
When everyone else is oddly silent, Anne becomes determined to uncover the truth no matter how many rules she has to break to do it. With the help of Isabella’s twin brother Anthony, and a cute classmate named Brent, Anne discovers that Isabella wasn’t quite the innocent nerdy girl she pretended to be. But someone will do anything to stop Anne’s snooping in this fast-paced, unputdownable read—even if it means framing her for Isabella’s murder.
Toot's Review by Stacy Sabala
She was devastated. She could talk her way out of anything in New York. Here it was a different world and she didn’t want to be here. She already made an enemy in Alexis, the senator’s daughter, on her first day. At least her roommate is cool and accepts her no matter what she has done. She starts to think that Boston won’t be that bad.
After her first week, she sneaks out of her room with some other girls and goes to a party with some guy friends. She gets locked out and Isabella, her roommate, doesn’t answer her phone or the door. She spends the night across the hall and learns that her roommate has been murdered the night before. She is in complete shock and her guilt is front and center. She is also very saddened.
Her life is about to change. She is pulled into a world of cover ups, black-mail, threats, and espionage. Secrets are swirling around her new school and it appears there are several people at school with motive to kill Isabella. Anne decides it is up to her to find out who committed this horrible crime. She enlists the help of some friends and learns more about what happens at the school then she probably ever imagined. Unfortunately the killer is on the loose and knows what she is up to. She has to uncover who the person is before she suffers the same fate.
I was intrigued with Anne. She is a smart mouthed, spoiled brat in the beginning of the story. She has never had to deal with major consequences before and she is forced to when she is sent to Boston. It is fun to watch her assert herself in her new school and live with her embarrassment. I like the way she evolves and decides she has to help Isabella no matter what. She learns that she has to fight the system and she plows full speed ahead anyway. She discovers that she is courageous and stronger than she thought. She puzzles through the situation and makes astounding discoveries that makes the reader cheer Anne on.
Excellent read and I give it 5 out of 5
