Book Blurb
I live in a world without magic or miracles. A place where there are no clairvoyants or shapeshifters, no angels or superhuman boys to save you. A place where people die and music disintegrates and things suck. I am pressed so hard against the earth by the weight of reality that some days I wonder how I am still able to lift my feet to walk.
Former piano prodigy Nastya Kashnikov wants two things: to get through high school without anyone learning about her past and to make the boy who took everything from her—her identity, her spirit, her will to live—pay.
Josh Bennett’s story is no secret: every person he loves has been taken from his life until, at seventeen years old, there is no one left. Now all he wants is be left alone and people allow it because when your name is synonymous with death, everyone tends to give you your space.
Everyone except Nastya, the mysterious new girl at school who starts showing up and won’t go away until she’s insinuated herself into every aspect of his life. But the more he gets to know her, the more of an enigma she becomes. As their relationship intensifies and the unanswered questions begin to pile up, he starts to wonder if he will ever learn the secrets she’s been hiding—or if he even wants to
.
The Sea of Tranquility is a rich, intense, and brilliantly imagined story about a lonely boy, an emotionally fragile girl, and the miracle of second chances.
Book Blurb
Wow, well let's see how I can possibly review this book? It's about two very damaged, broken, depressed teens who find salvation, anguish and eventually healing through each other. I'm going to go out on a limb and not write a synopsis because the blurb basically covers the base story but again, it's basically two very broken teens who've had extreme circumstances happen to them that have shaped their live into something ugly but whom find love and second chances in each other .
Ok so you wanna read this book? Yes, you do but know that it's very, very, very dark and at times, depressing but the moral and story are well worth it. Don't go into this book looking for the warm fuzzies right away, cuz they're not there. The majority of the book is told from inside the teens' minds, especially Nastya's because she doesn't talk, like ever. Their thoughts, feelings and general views are all guiding the story. It's also told from each teens POV for different situations. One chapter will be from Nastya's POV, one will be from Josh's. It is expertly told by the author and like any POV book, you won't have all the piece of the puzzle until the end. The author does a great job keeping the reader in the dark to the entire situation with Nastya and lets your imagination fill in the blanks for the majority of the book because let's face it, our imaginations can go ugly places sometimes. The story is heart-breaking and the author does a fabulous job at showing the reader the fallout of how one situation has a ripple effect and touching on all the people whom surround it. No one leaves unscathed when tragedies such as these occur.
This book will get under your skin and stay there for awhile. It's one of those books that makes you count your lucky stars and kiss your loved ones but will also leave you with hope for the two main characters.
