Book Blurb
Prized for his unbeatable tracking skills, Ewen “Hunter” Lamont accepts a dangerous assignment: locate a missing undercover courier. But this is no ordinary target. Ewen has met his prey before as “Sister Genna,” a fiery, forbidden woman forever etched in his memory after one stolen, sinful kiss. Now that he knows her real identity, he’s more determined than ever to keep her safe. But without the protection of the veil between them, fighting the allure of the beautiful lass may be the toughest battle this extraordinary warrior has ever faced.
After her ill-fated attempt three years ago to rescue her twin sister, Janet of Mar has found salvation acting as a royal messenger—until she surrenders to a darkly handsome warrior whose rough, sensual kisses stir feelings the woman in her can’t deny. But when betrayal leads to danger, and a crucial communiqué is put in jeopardy, Janet has no choice but to put her faith in the hunter who can find anything—perhaps even her heart.
Toot's Book Review by Stacy Sabala
Ewen Lamont is one belonging to the Highland Guard. He is the best tracker in Scotland and knows duty comes first. He refuses to be like his father and fights hard to prove his honor and worthiness. He is trying to please the king of Scotland and restore his clan’s name. His father was such a reckless chief and Ewen refuses to be anything like his father. He keeps his head down and does his duty above all else.
During this time of war, many men and women of the church are being used as couriers of information about the English King’s plans to The Bruce. Ewen is sent to escort one such nun back after she delivered her message to her contact. Ewen is furious that women are used in such a dangerous way in the war. Ewen and his partner rescue the nun and her companion from English soldiers who meant to harm them. While his partner delivered the message and one nun to a different abbey, Ewen escorts Sister Genna back to the abbey she came from. Sister Genna had been doing this for a while and didn’t believe she needed any help from Ewen.
The tension between them is instant attraction but Ewen believes Genna to be a nun and dutifully returns her to her abbey. He reports back to The Bruce and expresses his anger for using women in the war. As a result, Ewen discovers that Sister Genna is actually Janet of Mar. She is the sister-in-law to Robert and who has had no real say in what his sister-in-law did. Her stubbornness knows no bounds. She is successful as she is believed dead by the English after trying to rescue her twin sister. After healing she stays “dead” and becomes a courier for Scotland.
Robert The Bruce decides to bring Janet home after she goes missing and sends Ewen to find her. It has been decided that Janet is intended for the chief of the clan Stewart. She doesn't know this as Robert is afraid she will run and even Ewen won’t be able to find her. Marriage is not what Janet wants. Ewen has to bury his attraction to her and dutifully bring her back. Janet is having none of that. She refuses to believe that Ewen is immune to her. She plots to make Ewen jealous and admit he feels the same attraction. The journey proves to be eye opening and challenging.
Ewen wants her but can’t have her. Janet is confused and doesn't know what she wants anymore. Here is where the fun begins.
I liked this book. I absolutely loved Janet. She was feisty and manipulative, talking her way around men. It was awesome to watch her at work and see the men confused as to what just happened. She was a force to be reckoned with. It had me grinning. Once Ewen figured her out, he didn't fall for her silver tongue. That was comical to watch as no one has ever told her no. Her frustration and irritation was hilarious.
This book is for historical romance readers who love a good pairing with lots fireworks and drama.
I give it four out of five rating
