Review : Release Me by J. Kenner (CR/Erotica)

Book Blurb

He was the one man I couldn't avoid. And the one man I couldn't resist.

Damien Stark could have his way with any woman. He was sexy, confident, and commanding: Anything he wanted, he got. And what he wanted was me.

Our attraction was unmistakable, almost beyond control, but as much as I ached to be his, I feared the pressures of his demands. Submitting to Damien meant I had to bare the darkest truth about my past-and risk breaking us apart.

But Damien was haunted, too. And as our passion came to obsess us both, his secrets threatened to destroy him-and us-forever.

Toot's Review

Ok so this doesn't happen very often. You all who know me know I love my CR/Erotica and I can usually find   good things about most writing. I always try to put a positive spin on books because someone has put their heart into the work and maybe just because I did or didn't like it, that someone else may not have the total opposite opinion of me. It's happened before and it will happen again. I'm not a paid reviewer or anything like that. I'm a fan who has definite opinions about the books I read and I'll tell you what I thought. With that being said, let me give you a little history about me and this book.

Release Me was recently released and I noticed it being promoted in a lot of the book blogs and circles I frequent. I thought it looked right up my alley, so I added it to my TBR pile. As you can imagine, my TBR pile is huge and sometimes I need help with it by listening to a book audibly verses reading it. This allows me to read a book while at home and listen to one while driving....I know, right!?!

So when I looked on audible.com and saw Release me on there, I bought it right away *check another book off the TBR list, woot woot!* and started listening to it. Immediately I noticed that the reader was doing a horrible job. She was emoting in all the wrong places and pausing when she didn't need to. She was making the heroine super breathy and sultry for a standard everyday scene. Needless to say, it was a bit much. When I've run into bad actors in the past, I can usually overcome it by listening to the words and visualizing the scenes in my head rather then let the bad acting effect the book, so I found myself doing this with Release Me, not a big deal. What I couldn't get over was the utter cheesiness of the books dialog and commentary. The lack of chemistry of the main characters. The stalker tendencies of the main hero, which the heroine over looked. The sex/love scenes had me howling in laughter and I don't think I rolled my eyes so much in all my life. I know that the author's website claims that this book is all the rage for fans of Fifty Shades and Bared To You but I wouldn't even put them in the same league and for Fifty Shades, that's saying a lot. Honestly, I don't think I've read/listened to a worst book this year!
