Book Blurb
R is a young man with an existential crisis–he is a zombie. He shuffles through an America destroyed by war, social collapse, and the mindless hunger of his undead comrades, but he craves something more than blood and brains. He can speak just a few grunted syllables, but his inner life is deep, full of wonder and longing. He has no memories, noidentity, and no pulse, but he has dreams.
After experiencing a teenage boy’s memories while consuming his brain, R makes an unexpected choice that begins a tense, awkward, and strangely sweet relationship with the victim’s human girlfriend. Julie is a blast of color in the otherwise dreary and gray landscape that surrounds R. His decision to protect her will transform not only R, but his fellow Dead, and perhaps their whole lifeless world.
Scary, funny, and surprisingly poignant, Warm Bodies is about being alive, being dead, and the blurry line in between.

Toot's Review
Wow, just, wow! I decided to read this book before seeing
the movie. Everyone has been telling me how great the movie is but like any
good bookworm, I wanna read the book first and OMG, am I so glad I did! Like
all survival apocalyptic stories, the underlying theme is how much do you value
the life you've been given. How much do you cling to hope and how badly do you
want to survive? But unlike the other
gory, half rotting, death sucks and we want your brains movies, this one has a PNR
twist. Yes, it's a Zombie movie and yes, it's a love story. One Zombie in
particular remembers what it is to be human. His name is R or at least that's
all he can remember of his old name and R, hasn't totally lost all his
humanity. The story itself is told from his POV and it's actually quite
entertaining. He has conversations with other Zombies, mainly his BFF, M. He
talks about what it's like to amble around, what he does with his days and how
he really doesn't like being a Zombie but doesn't really remember what it was
like before either. He's sort of in this limbo, half dead, half living, sort
of. He even gets married to another Zombie and is given Zombie kids to look
after. Very apropos don't you think? Well, one day he and a bunch of the other
Zombies, go on a raiding party for food (humans) and bust into a compound. R,
goes after a guy named Perry and he munches him. R starts eating his brain like
any good Zombie and gains Perry's memories. Perry is a man who was alive but
through with living. He also had a girlfriend named Julie who Perry was
protecting before he got munched. Through osmosis, R, now feels the same
protective instincts and soon forms a bond with Julie. Yes, the story has hints
of a Romeo and Juliet theme but it's more than that. Without getting into
science mumbo jumbo and plausibility, the basic underlying story is that the
human spirit and love can overcome anything. How much do you want to be on the
planet earth? How much are you willing to fight? Even if you're dead, you can
fight to come back to life and if you're alive, how much do you want to be
alive? The juxtaposition of people who are dead, wanting to be alive and people
who are alive, who have lost all hope and just want to die, is very prevalent
in the story. Without getting more preachy, it's a story of hope, love and
life......and I personally loved the book!
5 out of 5 books!

In THE NEW HUNGER, Isaac Marion’s much-anticipated prequel to WARM BODIES, America has been devastated by natural disasters and governmental collapse, as well as the annoying problem of zombies trying to devour any survivors. But 16-year-old Nora and her younger brother Addis are about to discover the most frightening thing yet—being abandoned by their own parents.
As the siblings begin their harrowing journey to connect with anyone who isn’t looking to rob them or eat them, a 12-year-old girl named Julie is traveling in an SUV with her parents. She’s already seen her friends die and her school burn, and watched her father become nearly as cold and remorseless as the Dead. All she wants is to find a place she can call home, even if nothing will ever be the same.
Nearby, a man awakens in the woods, unsure of where, or who, he is. He struggles to remember the details of his life, but only a single letter comes to him. “R”…
