Secrets of the Sky (Paranormal Romance, Sensual)
When Sparrow Reed is forced into a world of demons and warfare, two good things come out of it: Immortality, and Rowen. Hottest. Conquest. Ever.
Rowen is an immortal knight charged with guarding the realm of portal travel. He never thought he’d fall for a young mortal with a back full of tattoos and a Wiccan enchantment. But he did. And according to a soothsayer, it will be her demise.
When his rejection sends Sparrow into the arms of a dangerous rebel, Rowen must decide which is more dangerous, the oracles grim warning, or forsaking his hearts one desire.

Book Excerpt
Rowen appeared beside Sodor in the doorway. Flecks of blood dotted his face, butSparrow barely noticed. Instead, her gaze slid downward. His leather pants clung to his
athletic thighs, and his whole body was damp, as if it had been drenched by a wave.
Beads of water dotted his strong chest like a sky filled with stars.
Was she staring?
What kind of sick person stared at a ripped, glistening torso instead of a
blood-splattered neck and face?
A horny one.
Melissandra seemed to notice the sensual tension filling the room and Sparrow’s
quick silence at Rowen’s entrance. “Should we go above deck and help these knights
clean up a bit? Obviously there appears to be a blood and guts issue.”
Sparrow blushed because she knew her skills with Wiccan were not at the same level
as her aunts. To be honest, she wished she could whip out a really cool spell and impress
Rowen with her abilities. After all, who knew what kind of otherworldly women he was
usually surrounded by?
Morgana took the cue from her sister and pushed past the knights before they could
answer. “We’ll have this place clean in a jiffy. Although if my dear niece’s telekinesis
skills were up to par, her bedroom wouldn’t look like a disaster zone.”
Sparrow blushed once more as everyone else headed above deck. Only Rowen stayed
behind, and she wondered if he’d sensed her discomfort.
“I’ve seen your talents in action. You flew brilliantly.” He smiled. “Who needs
telekinesis?”
She laughed, comfortable around this stunning man for the first time. “Thanks.”
“Shall we go above deck for some air?” Rowen gestured for Sparrow to go before
him.
As she walked past his form, Sparrow became all the more aware of how his body
filled the space. The scent of blood and a strange odor, probably demon guts, drifted
through the space, a reminder that the gentle voice belonged to a deadly warrior. She
halted next to him.
He was so tall, Sparrow had to tilt her head up to gaze at his face. She smiled lightly
when his aqua gaze recognized her close proximity. Her hands hovered just above his
cheeks. Sparrow gazed at him and began chanting in her head until a subtle glow
emanated from her hands. The light reached the skin of Rowen’s cheeks and buffed
away the flecks that had dried on his skin.
As she finished chanting and the glow dissipated, Sparrow thought she saw a hungry
look pass through Rowen’s expression. Lust?
Sparrow smiled and withdrew her hands. “See, I’m not completely useless.” Happy
to pull off the simple cleansing spell, Sparrow did her best to saunter seductively down
the hall. After all, she didn’t want that to be the last time she received that hungry look
from her warrior.

Toot's Review
Toot's Review
In Jay Shields's Immortal series, humans are just another species in the Fog realm. In fact, they are probably more an oddity or rarity. Besides all the characters being from different realms and being a variety of species, they all have the Realm of the Fog in common. The Realm of the Fog is pretty much a train station stop on your way to other realms and the Knights of the Fog are like really, really hot beat cops with silver hair. Their main responsibilities are to protect the travelers, the realm, it's King and whatever else might try to muck up their territory.
Secrets of the Sky is about one such Knight named Rowan and this is his HEA story. When we first meet Rowan, he shows up to help with a demon battle on earth where the demons are flooding a portal into the human realm. To not giveaway too much, during the battle, he notices a shapeshifter, of sorts, battling a dragon and immediately is smitten. Enter our heroine, Sparrow. She's an enchanted witch whom can change into any bird tattooed on her body. When she gets a call from her friend that demons are flooding San Francisco, she literally answers the call and helps out. Little does she know that she's way in over her head and totally gets her ass kicked! Sparrow does end up surviving and is hailed by the Fog realm as a hero along with her other friends, whom where in the battle. They are invited to come to the Fog realm for a ceremony but unbeknownst to Sparrow, she has some deep rooted ties to the realm and so our HEA journey begins.
When I first started to read this book, I did have a hard time switching gears from my last read to this one but as the story unfolded, I did find myself enjoying the characters very much. The whole gang was a wonderful eclectic mix of personalities and races, all coming together to form a fun paranormal family to fight the baddies. Jaye Shields's world in the Realm of the Fog is very unique as well. It's definitely a nice twist with it's airiness from the normally typical dark and foreboding paranormal world. I'd probably even venture to say it's more Fantasy then PNR. I would totally recommend adding it to your TBR pile, if you'd like to walk in the light and airy PNR/Fantasy world for awhile.
