Blurb from Goodreads:
Since time began, there have been Nightwalkers - the races of the night who live in the shadows of the moonlight. Love with humans is absolutely forbidden, and one man makes certain to uphold this ancient law: Jacob, the Enforcer...
For 700 Years, He has resisted temptation. But not tonight...
Jacob knows the excuses his people give when the madness overtakes them and they fall prey to their lust for humans. He's heard every one and still brought the trespassers to justice. Immune to forbidden desires, uncontrollable hungers, or the curse of the moon, his control is total...until the moment he sees Isabella on a shadowy New York City street. Saving her life wasn't in his plans. Nor were the overwhelming feelings she arouses in him. But the moment he holds her in his arms and feels the soft explosion of her body against his, everything changes. Their attraction is undeniable, volatile, and completely against the law. Suddenly everything Jacob has ever believed is inflamed by the heat of desire...

I decided to read a new series based on two of my favorite authors recommendations, Darynda Jones and Christine Feehan. As with all new authors and series, I decided to read some reviews before I dive in and boy were they mixed. People either love this series or absolutely find it a bunch of dribble. So of course I dived right in. This series falls into the PNR category. It deals with Demons, Druids, Vampires and Shapeshifters. This book in particular introduces the readers to the world of Demons and Druids. In this world Demons are not the mythological ones we all know and loath. In this world they are elemental creatures that look like humans and occupy the same world but of course live apart. They are forbidden to have dealings with humans (there's your Romeo and Juliet scenario). Our hero Jacob is the Enforcer for the Demons. He punishes or corrects any Demon who crosses the line because humans are fragile creatures and if they don't stay in check, they can do some serious damage to us lowly humans *rolls eyes*. Anywho, Jacob being the Enforcer, is feared among his kind and is lonely. One night while pursuing a rogue Demon, he meets our heroine Isabella, a human and well at this point, let the romance begin! (totally not giving spoilers)
So one of the controversy over this book is the use of the names Jacob and Isabella (I know, right?). Supposedly this book came out before Twilight and it's just a coincidence. I honestly never even thought of it as an issue. I've read many books that while not as famous as Twilight, had characters with the same main character name combinations as other books I've read and it raised more flags for me then this one did. I personally don't care what their names are, just that there's a good story. With that being said, I thought the take on the PNR genre was good. The beginning was a little slow for me but being this is a first book with world building, it was expected. The characters didn't really come to life for me till after about halfway through the book. Although I do have to say the author did use a few mannerisms way too much *hands on hips*. All in all, I did like it. I think as long as you know what you're getting into, you'll enjoy it. It's not an earth shattering, break all the rules, you'll die if you don't read this book, kinda book. It's a first book in a series, world building, character building, basic PNR book but with that being said I'll definitely keep reading the series and I'll of course post my reviews here.
3 out of 5 books

good, solid thoughtful review. I will try it out.
