She won't rest until she's sent every walking corpse back to its grave. Forever.
Had anyone told Alice Bell that her entire life would change course between one heartbeat and the next, she would have laughed. From blissful to tragic, innocent to ruined? Please. But that's all it took. One heartbeat. A blink, a breath, a second, and everything she knew and loved was gone. Her father was right. The monsters are real. To avenge her family, Ali must learn to fight the undead. To survive, she must learn to trust the baddest of the bad boys, Cole Holland. But Cole has secrets of his own, and if Ali isn't careful, those secrets might just prove to be more dangerous than the zombies.

Toot's Review
This book I actually got as ARC. It's a new Young Adult series by Gena Showalter. First let me say, I definitely loved this book! I mean what's not to love, it has Zombies, Kick-ass girls, teen angst, hawt guys and did I mention.....Zombies! Ok all joking aside, I did love this book although I would probably recommend it for teens 16 and older. It deals with some really difficult issues and might give some kids some nightmares. It deals mainly with her family dying (not a spoiler, it's in the forward), the grieving process, teen sex and many other serious issues. Also because they fight Zombies, there's lots of weapons and fighting. With that being said.....I loved this book! Basically the jist of the book because I don't want to spoil it for you is this, Alice looses her family, Alice goes to live with her Grandparents (whom I want to adopt BTW), Alice goes to a new school, finds a BFF (whom I want to adopt also), Alice meets two boys who vie for her attention (one bad and one good), One of the boys she falls madly in love with and the other is just bad news, Alice discovers she can see Zombies and decides to join the crusade to stop them and becomes a kick-ass Zombie slayer. That's all I'm going to say because I don't want to spoil it!
Now, why I love this book so much is this, even though it's a YA book, it deals with some heavy topics and in a totally believable way. As the reader, you go through the whole process with Alice (it's written in first person as FYI). You see why she is so upset at her parents, you see why she would make the choices she does and you rally with her in the choices. Gena Showalter does a fabulous job of getting you into the characters' mind and seeing the world from her point of view all the while telling a great story. If you don't know, I'm a Zombie lover and when I first heard about this book, I was like.....wonderful, love me some Zombies! As I read the book, I was like WTF are these Zombies. Gena has a whole new take on the Zombies and at first, I was a little confused by them, so be aware these are not your normal Zombies but as the story goes on, you get comfortable with the new style and I think you'll like the new take? So would I recommend this to my 15 1/2 year old niece, who reads books like they are air, who loves Zombie movies, who has read adult books and YA, totally absolutely, without hesitation, YES! Would I recommend this to my adult friends, absolutely YES! Would I recommend this to my 15 year old nephew who is still a kid at heart, who doesn't like anything spooky and girls still have cooties, Nope! *with a hair swinging head shake*
As a side note, the author has given the series it's own official website, if you'd like to learn more about the book, characters, author and series visit http://wrchronicles.com/
5 out of 5 books!
