Review: Treasured Secrets by Kendall Talbot

Book Blurb

From Romantic Book of the Year winner Kendall Talbot comes an adrenaline-fuelled new series with sexy characters, exotic locations, and action-packed adventure.

The last place Rosalina expected the clue to a 700-year-old mystery to lead is back into the arms of Archer, the one man who broke her heart. But neither can solve the puzzle without the other, so together they set off on a new adventure, weaving from Tuscany’s underbelly to Archer’s luxurious yacht in the Greek Islands, trying to ignore the sparks that still fly unhindered between them.

Archer desperately wants to salvage the relationship he shattered years before, but fighting for Rosalina’s love soon takes a back seat to fighting for their lives. They aren’t the only one on the trail for the treasure, and their competition isn’t bothered by ethics and morals to achieve their goals. With evil close on their trail, and Archer wrestling with the remnants of a childhood tragedy, Rosalina begins to wonder if perhaps there are some secrets that were never meant to be revealed.

Toot's Review by Stacy Sabala

Archer Mahoney keeps having nightmares about sharks attacking him and his father. They seem to happen around the same time each night. Rosalind has comforted Archer every night for three years, but he won’t tell her what his nightmares are about or what the pendant means that he never takes off. Archer has decided that he and Rosalind are getting too close and it is time to let her go. When she realizes he won’t open up and let her in after three years, she returns to Italy.

Once at home her friend Alessandro takes her to this church and she indulges him as she listens to him as he spouts the history of the church. She is shocked to see a similar design that Archer wears around his neck. She is now furious. Archer said he has never been to Italy. She makes a drunken call to him calling him a liar.

Archer is shocked and excited. Rosalind may have the information he needs. He has been trying to find out more about his pendent for years. He arranges for care of his boat and hops a plane to Italy and Rosalind. When he gets a look at the church he is confronted by a priest who is fixated on his pendant.

The mystery deepens as their lives are in danger. The priest is determined to find the location of the treasure that Archer and his father must have stumbled across. He will stop at nothing do get what he wants.

Rosalind is quite the Italian woman. I like her fiery personality. She refuses to settle with the half relationship she had with Archer. She returns to Italy and concentrates on herself. I like how strong the author portrays her. She is an awesome character. Archer is a bit damaged with the childhood tragedy he witnessed. He became an orphan after his father was killed and his mother gave up. He shut himself off. The author has created a complex man full of hurt, anger and uncertainty.

The storyline was about treasure hunting. It was exciting and full of mystery. The characters have to research and find the answers they need. The pieces of the puzzle were not always expected but intriguing.

The crazy priest, Nox, gave the dangerous edge to the story. It created to suspense to the story and he provided the danger and chase given to the main characters. He would stop at nothing to get the treasure buried at sea. His logic was warped and his mental capacity severely compromised. This book was a new story of adventure by a great author. I give it a 4 out of 5.
