Review: Stupid Boy (Stupid in Love #2) by Cindy Miles

Book Blurb

From Cindy Miles, bestselling new adult author of STUPID GIRL, comes the next installment of her blockbuster Stupid in Love series – STUPID BOY.

Brax Jenkins and Olivia Beaumont are the most envied couple at Winston University—but the so-called “virginity dare,” orchestrated by Brax’s old fraternity, almost tore them apart. Now, a new dare is taking shape, and it’s sure to set emotions ablaze--more than ever before.

Winston’s “It Girl” Harper Belle isn’t just president of the Deltas--she’s also a master at keeping her ugly past a secret. So, when the Kappas’ dare hits closer to home for her more than anyone realizes, she devises a competition of her own as payback. Three sorority sisters will seek out a notorious womanizer on campus and--unbeknownst their “mark”--secretly train him to be the perfect boyfriend. Always up for a challenge, Harper targets the biggest player she can find: Brax’s wickedly handsome foster brother Kane McCarthy.

But, Harper discovers there’s much more to Kane than girls, games, and partying. His easy smile belies the quiet, old soul reflected in his deep brown eyes. All it takes is one night, one secret laid bare, and one kiss from Kane to shift Harper’s world on its axis. Suddenly, the girl who’s always walked a straight and narrow path can’t think of anything else except losing control.

Toot's Review by Stacy Sabala

Harper lost her parents when she was eight. After the funeral she went to live with her grandmother who was strict and cruel. She told Harper that she was no longer Harper Lewis. That person died with her parents and she was no longer to think or remember her life before she came to live with her grandmother. Her grandmother controlled every aspect of her life and threatened to have her locked in an asylum.

Kane was abused by his father and ended up in foster care where he met Brax Jenkins. They accepted each other and thought of each other as brothers. They would do anything for each other. However Kane has a habit of running numbers and Brax fears for Kane and himself.

Now all three are on the Winston Campus. Brax is on the baseball team. Harper is the president of the Deltas and planning to get even with the Kappas for their humiliation prank. She is angry for what they did to Olivia and Brax. Harper is going to reform a boy who is tied to the Kappas so they lose them. Kane becomes her target. He is on campus visiting his brother and running numbers for the Kappas. She doesn’t want him to get in trouble or get Brax in trouble so she is going to change him. Kane, however, takes an interest in Harper on his own. He makes her nervous. She is tightly controlled and fears the intensity he brings. He also really sees her. She is afraid he sees right through the façade she has worked so hard to show the world.

Both bring issues to the table and trust few people. Harper trusts no one. Once the truth of everything comes out. Harper’s biggest fears come to pass. The monster comes out where everyone can see.

I read Stupid Girl which is Brax and Olivia’s story and loved it. When this book was offered I jumped on it. I couldn’t wait to see what happened next. I was not disappointed. The author created two broken characters in this book. It was sad to read as the abuse of both characters was revealed. Then effects of that abuse from their childhood follows them into adulthood.

This story was awesome in the sense that these two broken people found each other and could help each other heal. They had to learn to trust and face their demons.

Kane was a sigh worthy character. He contained a silent intensity and could accurately read people. He could sense that what Harper showed the world wasn’t really who she was. He could sense her demons. His perception of Harper and how he treated her was both sweet and hot. Every girl wants her man to be able to read her and know her like that. I also liked revisiting Brax and Olivia. One of my favorite parts of reading a series is keeping past and present characters front and center. Loved this book. Love the author. Can’t wait for book number three. I give it a 5 out of 5.
