Toot's Review by Betty Bee

'MeaningFULL: 23 Life-Changing Stories of Conquering Dieting, Weight, & Body Image Issues' is an aptly named book. Written by family and eating disorder therapist, Alli Spotts-De Lazzer, MeaningFULL is a book of 23 stories that have been collected from people from all different walks of life, all pertaining to their struggles with eating disorders.

This book was both moving and poignant, with some lighter, happy moments thrown in for good measure. Each story is from an individual who has known the darkest depths of body image issues and has persevered and climbed out of those depths in order to live a better life. Unlike a lot of other books with words like 'dieting' in the title, this book is filled with body positivity and tips for how to deal with your own issues with your body image.

There were a lot of practical, realistic tips in this book, not just from the people telling their stories but from a trained therapist who actually understands eating disorders for the mental health issues that they are. At the end of every story, Spotts De-Lazzer adds a note from herself, clarifying what type of lesson can be taken away from each one and offering more guidance about any methods of therapy or treatment that may have been brought up.

The ideas in this book provide healthy, gentle suggestions to help deal with, what Spotts De-Lazzer refers to as an 'abusive relationship with yourself,' a metaphor that I felt, fits perfectly. There is no one that is harder on us than ourselves, and the stories in this book reflect that mentality.

I recommend this book to anyone that has struggled or still struggles with body image or eating disorders in the past or anyone who wishes to understand the mindset that causes them. There is no better look at that world than this! 5 Stars
