Review: To Save a Savage Scot (A Time Traveler’s Highland Love Book 2) by Tamara Gill

Book Blurb

Kenzie Jacobs is fascinated by a portrait of the roguish Highlander, Black Ben, which hangs in her ancestral home. There's a mystery surrounding his death, and Kenzie longs to solve it by traveling through time to 17th century Scotland--and perhaps meet the gorgeous laird who haunts her dreams.

Black Ben, Laird of Ross, suited his dark name more than ever since his wife died in childbirth. He has vowed never to marry again. But Kenzie is an intoxicating elixir and even more potent than whiskey. As confusing and crazy as she may seem, he can't get her out of his system. But there's no way they can ever work, as she does not fit into his plans.

Fate has brought them together, and Ben can't stop Kenzie from returning to her time, though he would do anything-except marry her-to keep her with him. Kenzie has a life to get back to but leaving her favorite, though infuriating, Highlander behind, might be the toughest thing she'll ever have to do.

Toot's Review by Stacy Sabala

The main character in this story is Kenzie.  She has purchased Castle Ross and intends to restore it to its former glory.  She also is intrigued over the Laird Ross and his fate.  He mysteriously disappears.  No one knows for sure if he was murdered or killed himself.  She plans to find out using her special skills and traveling back through time.
Her reasoning for this trip back in time is meet her ancestors, see what Castle Ross looked like, and save Laird Black Ben Ross.  Of course things can’t be that easy.  The author makes Ben into a real jerk at first.  Kenzie instantly dislikes him.  She stays awhile in his time and finds out what life was like.  She gets to know the man behind the legend and finds the more she knows him the more she likes him.
She is independent and brave.  Her character has to find a balance of her modern day beliefs and the beliefs of the time.  She has to walk this fine line, yet she makes her own enemies.  The author allows her to adapt well and accept what she experiences.  She is an excellent character.
Ben is also a great character.  He is a bit of a bad boy and teases Kenzie in an inappropriate manner for the time.  It is funny to watch the interactions and read her shock.  When she starts sassing him back, it completely cracked me up.  She surprises him and he has definitely met his match.  Then he decides he likes her sass.  It was a fun pairing.

The threat that the author presented wasn’t surprising but more irritating.  Who does things like that?  I knew by the end that the disappearance would be exactly what I thought.  It was how it came to be that was a bit surprising.  The characters were presented with some hard decisions.  It was a great read.  I love time traveling storylines like this one.  I give it a 4 out of 5.
