Review: My Unexpected Forever

My Unexpected Forever My Unexpected Forever by Heidi McLaughlin
My rating: 1 of 5 stars

OMG I hated this book. I'm sorry but I just did. I read the first book in the series that was made into a movie and it was good enough for me to move onto the others, even the 1.5 but this book was just sooooooo eye-rolling.
The story was actually setup in book 1 with the heroine's husband dying which was the catalyst that brought all these characters to the small town of Baumont. So seeing the first book was about another couple, the author made this one the HEA for the widow. Got that, good.
Alrighty, so now we have a widow of 1 year and a drummer who has been pining for her since they met. Basically 90% of the book is a tug and pull between the two. He wants her and her twin daughters to be a family with him and his son. There's mixed communications, crazy scheming ex's with no explanation and the heroine is just scared to move on. She keeps comparing him to her dead husband. She wants him, she hates him and she's so in her head that she just comes off a pathetic. She does the classic graveyard scene to ask the dead husband if he's ok with her moving on. She's basically a doormat in therapy that never really evolves and believe it or not, he's a doormat too. The best thing about the book were the kids.
My advice to the characters, if a photo breaks you up without hearing the other person out than it's not worth saving. Just sayin'
Save yourself sometime and find another angsty romance because there are much better written versions of this story out there with characters you'll care more about. Move on!
