Review: Listen to Your Heart by Kasie West

Book Blurb

Talking to other people isn't Kate Bailey's favorite activity. She'd much rather be out on the lake, soaking up the solitude and sunshine. So when her best friend, Alana, convinces Kate to join their high school's podcast, Kate is not expecting to be chosen as the host. Now she'll have to answer calls and give advice on the air? Impossible.

But to Kate's surprise, she turns out to be pretty good at the hosting gig. Then the podcast gets in a call from an anonymous guy, asking for advice about his unnamed crush. Kate is pretty sure that the caller is gorgeous Diego Martinez, and even surer that the girl in question is Alana. Kate is excited for her friend . . . until Kate herself starts to develop feelings for Diego. Suddenly, Kate finds that while doling out wisdom to others may be easy, asking for help is tougher than it looks, and following your own advice is even harder.

Kasie West's adorable story of secrets, love, and friendship is sure to win over hearts everywhere.

Toot's Review by Stacy Sabala

Kate loves the lake.  Her parents own and run the marina which is Kate’s happy place.  She doesn’t want to be anywhere else.  She is also trying to get over her broken heart left by her ex who moved away and quit taking to her.  So when school starts she gets pulled into this new class with her best friend Alana.  She is shocked when she has to co-host the school podcast.  She doesn’t like people and has no clue how to do this.

Alana has also set her sights on Diego and wants Kate’s help to get him.  It will get her mind of her heartbreak.  Kate is all up for helping her.  The story centers around Kate trying to help Alana’s cause with Diego and hosting the podcast.  Kate has no real confidence in herself unless she is at the lake, which is sad.  Then when she realizes she likes Diego too, she panics.  Alana likes him, so he is off limits.  However, watching them together is hard to do.  Things get ridiculous because the lack of communication and advice given in the podcast.  I liked watching Kate come out of her shell a bit and really take a chance in the end.  Of course half the things didn’t have to happen if she would have understood what was really in Diego’s heart.  The ending was pretty cute and it was a perfect way to wrap up the story. It was fun to read and went pretty fast.  I give it a 4 out of 5.
