Toot's Review

In this sweet new modern romance series by Kristen Proby, we find our hero Finn Cavanaugh having to be the barer of bad news to our heroine; Tony Award Winning Actress London Watson and her brother, both of whom just lost their parents in a fire and left London with a broken leg. As sexy as Finn is, his timing isn’t the best and as a result, the two have a missed opportunity but months later fate throws them together again when they are both vacationing in Martha’s Vineyard as neighbors while London is recuperating. Quickly the two find the timing is much better this time around with the help of Finn’s adorable niece and sparks fly but there’s a small mystery that needs to be solved. Who did his niece see on her property and is there foul play afoot?

The story itself isn’t earth shattering but is just a fun simple summer romance read with a few small mysteries thrown in to help move the story along. More than anything, what I loved was the relationship between the two main characters. This duo is actually on equal footing *gasp*. There’s no Cinderella trope here. The heroine and hero both have load of money, each have very strong careers, and no one is expecting or needing a rescue. Both characters are more experienced and comfortable with who they are. Neither character have a tragic past or major mental/emotional issues outside of the norm; which to be honest is actually kind of refreshing to read about a more normal couple coming together. I honestly appreciated when real issues got in the way like how women shop vs. guys and how women can pay for their own purchases or when both parties are having communication issues.

Sometimes in the romance genre it can be quite formulaic; which is fine for fantasy but sometimes you just want a splash of reality and this book delivers that. Two people who have lived their lives and must do a little work to be together.
