Bran and the
gang are looking for the Santa Cristina.
LT, Olivia, Mason and Alex have been living on the island with him
searching for any clues to the location of the sunken ship. Bran has also been emailing Maddy Powers for
the last three months. When she invites
him to the Dry Tortugas for a quick visit, the idea makes him sweat. He met her on a mission three months ago
where they shared a searing kiss. He is
hooked on her but doesn’t do love or relationships. He is determined to keep her at arms length
as a friend.
However he
finds himself in a boat bound for the Dry Tortugas with Mason and Alex. It is exactly what he shouldn’t be
doing. When they arrive they hear gun
shots coming from the island. A boat is
moored there and Bran fears for Maddy’s life.
Maddy, the
teenage girls she brought, and the young ranger are taken hostage. Maddy can’t believe this is happening
again. She needs to protect the girls
the best she can. The men on the island
are pros and she needs to be smart.
When Bran
and Mason sneak onto the island to save the day, things get crazy. Bran and Maddy work together to save the
girls. They also grow closer. However Bran can’t get past the monster that
lives inside of him nor his parents’ doomed relationship and obsessions. Maddy can never be more than a friend.
I really
like this author and this newer series she has introduced. I read the first one about LT and
Olivia. I was excited to find the second
one. Bran and Maddy had to have their
own story after the way they left things.
You really learn what makes them both do the things they do. Bran’s history isn’t pretty and Maddy’s heart
is huge. I like them both as a pairing.
They are from completely different worlds. Of course Maddy is a trouble magnet. She is held hostage twice in three
months. I would hide from the world
after that. Come on her luck is
ridiculous. When the author reveals the
power play taking place you feel sorry for her.
This isn’t going to end well.
The
characters are awesome as usual. Alex
and Mason are hilarious together as they bicker. The author also captured the three teenage
girls well. They are realistic and
sassy, exactly as I would expect. Maddy
was a great character. She comes from a
rich family but you would never know it from her attitude. She was brave and accepting of all.
The plot had
lots of suspense and gun battle. I loved
reading as Bran and Mason were back in action.
The former seals make it appear so easy.
It was an awesome read with great characters. I give it a 4 out of 5.
