Book Blurb & Info

Is it possible to expose Chicago’s hottest player—without getting played?

This is the story I've been waiting for all my life, and its name is Malcolm Kyle Preston Logan Saint. Don’t be fooled by that last name though. There’s nothing holy about the man except the hell his parties raise. The hottest entrepreneur Chicago has ever known, he’s a man’s man with too much money to spend and too many women vying for his attention.

Mysterious. Privileged. Legendary. His entire life he’s been surrounded by the press as they dig for tidbits to see if his fairytale life is for real or all mirrors and social media lies. Since he hit the scene, his secrets have been his and his alone to keep. And that’s where I come in.

Assigned to investigate Saint and reveal his elusive personality, I’m determined to make him the story that will change my career.

But I never imagined he would change my life. Bit by bit, I start to wonder if I'm the one discovering him...or if he's uncovering me.

What happens when the man they call Saint, makes you want to sin?

Interview

Hi Katy,

Thank you so much for sitting down with Toot's for an interview. If you don't mind, I have some questions for you about your new series, Manwhore, your new book, Manwhore, and your process for our budding authors as well as fans.

Thank you so much for having me over, Carey. Absolutely, I'm thrilled to be here.

So first off, your newest book is part of your new series, Manwhore. Let's talk about the series as a whole....

In your own words, what is the Manwhore series about?

This series is set in Chicago with a cast of modern characters, people like you and me, who work, have friends, family, interests, and are not necessarily looking for love, even though love finds them unexpectedly. The first books in the series focus on the same couple; Rachel, my heroine, is assigned to gather some juicy tidbits about Chicago's renowned billionaire player, Malcolm Saint. But what begins as an assignment slowly turns into something more, something neither of them were looking for. How do you make time for love in this day and age when we're all so focused on our families and careers as well?

What inspired the series?

I was looking for ideas for my new series when I went to a signing in Chicago, and saw this picture on TV about a very handsome playboy and his gazillion followers on social media, all who dote on him. I didn't catch his name but I was so intrigued I couldn't stop wondering about him. I was haunted until Malcolm Saint appeared, giving a full-bodied story to my musings as he became the kind of hero that made my heart crash in my ribcage! :)

What are some of the elements of the world you created?

I love the setting for Manwhore and the Manwhore series. Chicago, a city bustling with life, and a young cast of characters who really came to life on the page. Saint is a worldly, experienced player and Rachel, although she's a very centered heroine who knows exactly what she wants, never knows what hits her until she's completely swept away.

If you had to pick one thing, what is your favorite thing about the world you’ve created for your series?
Aside from my hero and heroine, I'd have to say the supporting characters. They all add so much depth and life to the story.

Can you tell us a bit about the first book in the series, Manwhore?

Manwhore is the first book of the series and one of several books that Rachel and Malcolm Saint will have together. It begins when Rachel is assigned to gather some juicy tidbits on the renowned Chicago billionaire player...and what begins as a simple assignment begins to get complicated when she realizes there is so much more to Malcolm Saint than the online gossip has led her to believe.

How did you come up with the title of your new book and series and can you tell us its significance?

The title is focused on the man the media perceives, but the actual story is about the man he allows no one to see, until he meets this one girl who he actually lets in.

How does the new book, Manwhore, fit into the series?

As the first book in the series, Manwhore is the book that sets up the story world and the main story between Saint and Rachel, as they meet each other, know each other, and slowly begin to burn for each other.

What genre would you say Manwhore is and what sets your book apart for fans of the genre?

This is an adult contemporary romance, it is very sexy, and very modern. Although the story and plot are simple, it's the simplicity in the storyline that really lets the characters shine.

What was your favorite scene to write in Manwhore?

I have several for sure! One is a scene where she goes to stalk him at a club where he's hosting a very posh party. That was the very first scene I ever wrote for this book. Another scene is their first kiss. It's the kiss of all kisses!

What was the hardest scene to write for Manwhore?

I have to admit that I enjoyed each and every scene in this book. I didn't want it to end! And I'm glad that it doesn't, and that their story continues in the next book.

What is your favorite line or quote from Manwhore?

Oh, I have so many too. I truly love that as Rachel starts to know him, she starts to think of and call Malcolm "Sin."

Malcolm Saint is just so very dark and very sinful!

Writing.......

Do you recall how your interest in writing originated and what made you decide to pursue it as a career?

It all began with books and my love of reading. I think that's where we all discover the magic! You just never know which book is going to touch you or change your life somehow. I used to read and sometimes come up with alternate scenes or endings, and that really made me crave to write my own stories and share them with others, hoping they enjoyed them the same way I did.

What inspires you to put the pen to paper or fingers to the keyboard?

Inspiration comes from different sources. Sometimes it's a song, others it's a thought, others it's simply the character who comes to me very clearly, with a very clear goal and desire, which I want to fulfill.

What are some of the elements in/of your writing process?

My writing process is always the same. I have a writing schedule which I try to stick to. Four hours in the morning, and about three in the afternoon. Sometimes I can keep writing for twelve hours straight. I think having a schedule is very helpful. Your brain somehow kicks into gear when it knows it's writing time. But even when I'm not sitting by my computer, I am usually deep in thought replaying a scene I want to write in my head.

Are you a Plotter or a Panster?

I'm completely a pantser. I sit down and see where the characters and the story takes me, so I keep getting surprised on every turn. I admire plotters very much though. Especially when I write myself into a corner, I need to backtrack, figure out what's not working, weed it out and keep going.

Have you released anything under a different pen name, and if so, is there any difference between them?

I've written all my life even if, for the most part, for myself. I have written poetry, songs, short stories, longer stories, but it took me a while to find my "voice" and figure out what it was I really wanted to write until I penned Real. It really was the first time I came into myself, and it was all thanks to Indie publishing. Knowing there were no rules, that I could write whatever I wanted, was very freeing and allowed me to really write the book I wanted to write. I'm truly glad I had the courage to share it and I'm truly grateful for all the book love readers have sent my way from that moment on.

What's next for you?

I plan to stay on the Manwhore series for a little while, so hopefully I get to write books for some of Saint and Rachel's friends.

Is there anything you’d like to add or say to your fans?

I adore you, each and every one of you. Thank you for your love.

Personal questions......

Now I know this is like asking you to choose between your own children, but out of all your amazing characters, who is your favorite and why?

It's so hard to say! They really are like children and you can't love one more than the other. Some are more difficult, some easier, but you just love them so hard! Truly, each of them has a firm place in my heart, because they all took little pieces of me. But I guess the characters who are always my favorite are the ones I'm working on now. They're the ones who are consuming me, invading my thoughts, demanding I sit down and write another chapter, then another, until they get what they want.

Are there any of your stories or characters that hold a special place in your heart?

I am a huge book lover and I read in a variety of genres. Jojo Moyes's ME BEFORE YOU has really stayed with me, Elswyth Thane's TRYST too. I love the Sylvia Day CROSSFIRE series, and I love TWILIGHT and Stephanie Meyer for writing that series. My daughter read all four books at the same time I did and it really forged a reading bond between us that we share, to this day. In general, books just make me happy. I think I hold them all in a little mental shrine. :)

If the book or series had to have a theme song, what would it be?

PEACE by O.A.R is my favorite song in my MANWHORE playlist and it's one that has been continuously playing as I continue with the series. It reminds me so much of Saint and Rachel.

Lastly, What 5 things do fans not know about you and 5 they don't know about the series?

5 things about me:

1. I love nature and everything natural so I totally fall for: natural, organic, recycled, green - yep, those words are like music to me!

2. Because I'm a little bit diminutive in stature, I love BIG things - big dogs, big shoes, big cars, big bags.... hmm, yeah I know what you're thinking. I guess that too! :d

3. I'm so curious I'd put your cat to shame. I must know about everything

4. I love music. I listen to it in the car, shower, while I write, while I plot, while I exercise.

5. I've only ever been in love with one man in my life and I'm still married to him, 19 years later.

5 things about the series:

1. I'm still not sure if Malcolm and Rachel will get 2 books or 3, I'm letting them tell me their story at their own pace.

2. I seriously love the covers Gallery Books made for the series. It really captures the sexy, modern tone of the stories

3. I would love to eventually write a book where I pair Saint's best friend with Rachel's best friend

4. My first draft actually began with the first Club scene, but then I wasn't sure what happened next, so I had to go back, replot, and I realized I was starting at the wrong place

5. I fell SO in love with these characters that for the first time in my career, I literally took off about a month to dedicate myself to them and only them.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for taking time to answer some questions. Congratulations on the new book and I can't wait for everyone to read it – Sincerely, Carey

Thank you SO much for having me, Toot! I am definitely hoping you enjoy and am grateful to anyone who spends time with Mr. Manwhore. Be sure to let me know what you think. :)
