Book Blurb
#1 bestselling author Maya Banks continues her suspenseful and steamy Slow Burn trilogy with this second book-a twisting tale featuring a strong yet vulnerable heroine in danger and the sexy alpha hero who must save her.
Abandoned as a baby to a young wealthy couple and raised in a world of privilege, Arial has no hint of her past or who she belonged to. Her only link lies in the one thing that sets her apart from everyone else—telekinetic powers. Protected by her adoptive parents and hidden from the public to keep her gift secret, Ari is raised in the lap of luxury, and isolation. That is, until someone begins threatening her life.
Beau Devereaux is no stranger to the strange. As the head of Deveraux Security, he’s more than familiar with the realities of physic powers. So when a family friend approaches him about protecting his daughter, he’s more than ready to jump on board. What Beau isn’t prepared for is the extent of his attraction to his beautiful and powerful client. What began as a simple assignment, just another job, quickly turns personal as Beau discovers he’ll do anything at all to protect Ari. Even if it costs him his life.

Toot's Review
In His Keeping is Maya Bank’s second book in her Slow Burn series. It follows the love story of Beau and Ari. If you are unfamiliar with this new series by Maya Banks, think, protection agency man + woman with psy ability = HEA. With that being said though, this book is also full of adventure, suspense, hot men and kick ass women.
So let’s get to a bit of a synopsis for ya!
The story starts with Gavin and Ginger; two people very much in love but cursed with not being able to have a child. After numerous attempts, the two love birds have given up all hope of having their own bundle of joy until one Christmas morning when they find a baby left on their door step. The pair quickly takes her in and decides to adopt her. They name the baby Ariel, Ari for short. As Ari grows, in a safe and loving home, weird stuff starts to happen. Bottles float to the baby, stuffed animals find their way into the crib and so on. The parents are scared at first but soon realize that their precious baby is also very special, she has telekinesis which means she can move objects with her mind. Like any loving parents, they keep her secrets and teach her how to hide in plain sight, all the while keeping her safe from people who’d want to do her harm.
Fast forward 22 years later and the inevitable has happened, Ari’s secret is discovered in a big way and now not only her life but the lifes of all she holds dear are being hunted and only Deveraux Security and the dashing Beau can help.
I actually really enjoyed this story but then again, I’m a sucker for the protection agency alpha males and strong damsels in distress. I also love the twist with the psy abilities. It reminds me of some of her KGI series, again which I love, so I’m happy to have this series in Maya’s arsenal of stories.
As for the characters, Ari starts off a sheltered school teacher but turns into a fierce momma bear when those she loves is threatened. It was wonderful seeing her grow. Beau on the other hand, is already an alpha male but becomes putty in the face of love. Just a big ol’ teddy bear, although I did find it a bit hard to swallow that the boys would be taken by surprise so many times. Not sure I’d have confidence in hiring them to protect me, seeing as how the girls always seem to come to the guys rescue in these stories and the men seem to just carry the guns and go “gggggggrrrrrrr me man, you woman, I protect, ooooogggggaaaa booogggggaaaa!”
Anywho, it’s a good contemporary romance with a PNR twist. If you’re a fan of her KGI series or families, alpha males, strong women, and a bit of mystery to mix it all up…..give In His Keeping a try!
