Review : Hard to Hold on To (Hard Ink #2.5) by Laura Kaye

Book Blurb

Edward "Easy" Cantrell knows better than most the pain of not being able to save those he loves--which is why he is not going to let Jenna Dean out of his sight. He may have just met her, but Jenna's the first person to make him feel alive since that devastating day in the desert more than a year ago.

Jenna has never met anyone like Easy. She can't describe how he makes her feel--and not just because he saved her life. No, the stirrings inside her reach far beyond gratitude.

As the pair are thrust together while chaos reigns around them, they both know one thing: the things in life most worth having are the hardest to hold on to.

Toot's Review by Stacy Sabala

In this Hard Ink novella, the team is back and still looking for the truth. They have rescued Sara and Jenna from the Church gang. They are all holed up in Jeremy’s building above his tattoo shop waiting for the dust to settle. They are determined to continue the investigation.

Jenna, on the other hand, is dealing with what she was put through when she was kidnapped. The drugs they gave her are really messing her up especially with her epilepsy. She remembers Easy protecting her before she was kidnapped and coming for her afterwards. She only feels safe when he is near. He becomes the one she turns to for help and to ease her fears.

As she fights through her fears and trauma, she finds her feelings for Easy growing. Easy, on the other hand, blames himself for his best friend’s death. He finds his thoughts are very dark and dire. He doesn’t believe he is good enough for anyone, especially Jenna. Yet Jenna seems to bring him light. He doesn’t know if he is strong enough to make it through the darkness.

This is an excellent addition to the series. Easy is a favorite character and I was glad to see him finally reveal how he was really doing. His guys needed to know what he was feeling and how it was affecting him. Jenna was a great partner for Easy. She may have been young but she understood him and accepted him the way he needed. I really liked the pairing and look forward watching their relationship evolve. I give it a 4 out of 5.
