3 Book Review : The Dark God's Bride Trilogy by Dahlia L. Summers

Book Blurb

An ancient god on a destructive path of vengeance...

Trapped in the earth by the Archangel Lucifer for what seems to be most of eternity, the Dark God Summit wants nothing less than equivalent retribution. After breaking free and successfully retaining some splintered shards of his sanity, Summit set out to confront his captor. The Archangel is nowhere to be found. He has, however, left behind his coveted mortal bride. Summit storms into Hell to capture Lucifer's one and only weakness, but inadvertently, he abducts the wrong woman.

Now Summit must deal with a fiery young mortal named Amara and keep his sanity in check to ensure his plan's success. As the mortal tears at both his patience and sanity, romance unexpectedly develops and interferes with Summit's scheme. But it will take a lot more than wicked attraction to a grey-eyed mortal to sate his desire for vengeance.

Toot's Review by Stacy Sabala

In Book one of the series, Noctis is a god who has been trapped in the earth for thousands of years by Lucifer. He finally breaks free and focuses on his revenge. It becomes his sole mission. He learns that Lucifer has a mortal wife and decides to use her for his revenge.

He breaks into the palace and kidnaps the only mortal female he sees. Of course she isn’t who he believes she is. Amara is the foster daughter of Lucifer’s wife Kali. She refuses to enlighten her captor of her true identity in order to protect Kali.

She endures his attitude and arrogance. She refuses to be cowed by him and constantly tells him what she thinks. She exasperates him at every turn. She even escapes twice, but he always finds her and brings her back.

As a result his feelings start to change. Amara is no longer a weak mortal in his eyes. He wants her as his companion. Unfortunately for her, he figures out who she is not. Her failure is huge and her guilt blinding. She fears the consequences of what she has done.

I like the story line of this series and how Amara meets Noctis. It was funny to read about how they drove each other crazy. He truly wanted to strangle her at times. I knew his feelings would change. The story was predictable enough. However the ending left an excellent cliffhanger. The next book will have a great place to pick up where this one left off.

However the beginning of the story seemed a bit choppy in the writing style. As the story moved along it seemed to flow more smoothly like the author grew more comfortable as the story evolved. I give it a 3 out of 5.

Book Blurb

An ancient god on a destructive path of vengeance...

Imprisoned by the Archangel Lucifer ages ago, Summit, the Dark God, wanted nothing less than equivalent retribution. After breaking free and successfully retaining some splintered shards of his sanity, Summit set out to confront Lucifer. The Archangel was nowhere to be found. He has, however, left behind his most coveted mortal bride. The Dark God stormed into Hell to capture Lucifer's one and only weakness, but inadvertently abducted the wrong female - his own.

A reluctant heroine...

As a mortal raised among the demons inside a floating castle in Hell, Amara's life is not exactly what you would call normal. When she finds herself abducted by a half-mad god, who mistook her for the woman who brought her up, Amara chooses to hide her identity to protect her foster mother at the risk of her own life.

This is the second installment of The Dark God's Bride Trilogy.

Toot's Review by Stacy Sabala

In book two, Nala has set her plan in motion to get Trent, the son of Lucifer, to love her. So far everything is going as planned. She is worried, however, about Noctis getting in the way. She mettles a bit in Amara’s life leading Noctis to believe there is a child in the works.

Amara has no clue and believes Noctis is going insane. Noctis is on his way to insanity as he knows, but decides to change his approach with Amara as a result of the pregnancy. He decides to provide for her but leave her alone. Amara is confused. She is fighting her feelings for Noctis, yet his behavior has baffled her lately. She can’t figure out why he has pulled the disappearing act.

When Kali comes to visit, Noctis takes advantage and abducts her. He is determined to find where Lucifer rests. Once he threatens Kali, Lucifer stirs and rises. The battle begins as revenge reigns. Amara is determined to find the truth so no one has to perish. Her efforts result in trapping her for all eternity without the one she loves.

In this book the author continues the explosive relationship between Noctis and Amara. Their relationship is filled with intense passion and a swing between love and hate. It was fun to watch them fight with each other. I could just picture their expressions when dealing with each other.

In the end they realize how much they really care, especially Amara. She really misses him when he is gone. I can’t wait to read the next book to see what happens next. The writing flowed better in this book and I give it a 4 out of 5.

Toot's Review by Stacy Sabala

In book three Noctis has somehow escaped his trap and makes it back to his house. He doesn’t know how long he was gone. The necromancer is there. He and Amara’s friend Lizzie are living at the mansion with Amara. Amara is out for the evening. He goes to find her, realizing that his enemies have turned against her. Also it seems that Death is stalking her. There have been too many unexplained accidents.

Noctis surprises Amara and takes her home where she explains what an oracle has said about her life. Noctis refuses to believe what was foretold and seeks out the oracle. While he is gone Death comes for Amara whisking her to the Realm of the Dead. Noctis must go in and retrieve her. The oracle explains that in order for them to be together, the journey will be full of difficulty, but Noctis does not fear what fate might throw at them.

When Death gets involved, determined to take Amara, Noctis is tested beyond measure. He must ultimately make a huge sacrifice to protect her.

This is the final book in the trilogy and Amara’s story. This book was full of major obstacles trying to keep the main characters apart. When Rion showed up, the reader knew that Amara would be thrown for a loop. Amara was a bit of a mess and truly indecisive about Noctis. She wavered continuously both ways which was a bit annoying for me. It was almost a tennis match with how she changed her mind, back and forth. She did totally redeem herself when she refused to leave him chained up in the cabin.

The obstacles the author threw at them were frustrating to read. I wanted them to finally come together as a team. However it never got a chance to happen until the very end. It was frustrating to read, to the point that I started skimming and even skipping parts of the story. With that in mind I give the final book a 3 out of 5. I did like the series and favored the second book the most out of the three.
