Review : The Onyx Talisman (Talisman #3) by Brenda Pandos

Book Blurb

"Alora looked back and the corner of her lip turned up. "It's always darkest before the dawn, Julia. Good luck." Her words sent chills up my spine as she vanished.

Unrest stirs deep in Scotts Valley. Filled with uncertainty, Julia anxiously awaits Nicholas' return. Phil, hurt and unsure of his place as a sober vampire, holds the pieces of Julia's fragile psyche together, secretly hoping Nicholas stays away forever. Scarlett bides her time, plotting for the perfect moment to prove herself and earn redemption. But somewhere in L.A., Alora conspires to reclaim her talisman and strip Julia of everything she holds dear.

Little do they know, a war is coming and more than one vampire would like to see the Prince of Vampires overthrown. As more and more vampires show up from nowhere, addicted to her scent, Julia must pick her allies carefully before it's too late. Can Julia bargain with fate? When the time comes, will she even have a choice?

The Onyx Talisman is a clean Young-Adult Paranormal Romance.

Toot's Review by Stacy Sabala

In the third book of the Talisman Series, Julia is going crazy without word from Nicholas. She can’t stand being away from him. Scarlet, Phil, Tyler and Katie won’t let her go to LA to see him. They have formed their own coven with Scarlet who’s planning to enable Julia to break the curse and destroy all vampires.

When her mother’s body has been discovered, Julia, Luke and her dad end up in LA. Julia takes a chance, sneaking out to check on Nicholas. She is devastated to find he doesn’t remember her.

With her heart broken because of Nicholas and her mother, Julia is overwhelmed by her loss. When she and her dad are approached by a vampire she tries to get them away, but her father kills the vampire. She is shocked that he even knows about them. When he reveals what his job really is, she is reeling with shock. When she returns from her trip, she discovers that Sam, her best friend, has been turned. This is one more reason why she can’t kill all the vampires. She can’t lose everyone she cares about.

More and more students are now being turned as result of an injection of venom. Alora still wants the talisman and now the father of all vampires is on his way. How is Julia supposed to keep everyone safe? Everything is left up to her, her destiny.

This book was packed full of action and surprises. It was the best book in the series. The villainous characters were easy to hate. Alora was definitely a piece of work. You rooted for Julia the whole way. She grew into her role and became a strong lead character. I’m very glad for that fact. I was torn after reading the first book. I loved the story but really disliked Julia. I am relieved that she evolved the way she did.

I also really liked how the author ended the series. At first I wasn’t sure. There was a lot of sadness and devastation for Julia. She ended up making the biggest sacrifice. However her reward was worth it in the end. I give it a 4 out of 5.
